  • More than reasonable doubt in this one.

    5.0
I don't see how this racially divisive narrative serves any loyal Law and Order viewers. I had no idea what happened to the young black man other than what was shown, which was an ominous, threatening presence approaching a woman on a dark street. To turn this into a hate crime is ludicrous. This is the first Law and Order episode where I was rooting for the defendant because in a situation like she was in, I would have responded the same way. I hope to never see anything this transparent on L/O again.moreless
  • Not as bad as I expected

    3.0
Sure the writers slanted the whole thing to stir up racial tensions. I expect nothing less from Dick Wolf. To be fair, however, they did give a decent hearing to the other side. I was shocked that they had Tambor recite real crime statistics that black males commit rapes way out of proportion to their population. He should have argued that although the perp was 5 feet away when she shot her, he could have closed that distance in less than a second. I'm glad the jury didn't buy the argument that he followed her to get an autograph.moreless
  • Crossed The Line

    1.0
SVU really crossed the line with American Tragedy. Dick Wolf and his writers merged Trayvon Martin and Paula Deen into one cause George Zimmerman's acquittal so offended them and they wanted one more chance to humiliate Paula Deen. This is the last straw and I will not watch another episode of SVU. They ought to rename SVU into Law & Order: Liberal Soapbox.
  • American Tragedy

    7.5
Dick Wolf needs to stop using the show as a platform for his political views. This episode merged the Trayvon Martin and Paula Deen issues into one, but it was clearly used as an attempt to give his opinion on the former's shooting in real life.

Take the political bias aside, this was a strong episode. Jeffrey Tambor did another strong job as the lawyer in this one, and they did have the right verdict at the end.moreless
