At the end of the episode when Benson and Stabler are talking outside Stabler's apartment on the stairs, Stabler takes a sip of his drink, but later has to remove the lid from the drink that had been placed on the ground.
Kathy Stabler (to Benson, about Elliot): You know things about him I will never understand.
Elliot Stabler: You said he was escalating, you were right.
Olivia Benson: You think that's what I want to hear? He set her on fire, Elliot. Who could have anticipated that?
Elliot Stabler: If I had listened to you, we could have prevented this.
Olivia Benson: How?
Elliot Stabler: Have Novak push for remand, get a blue and white on him. Anything but make excuses for the guy.
Olivia Benson: Miles Sennet chose gasoline and a match, not you. He didn't just want her to kill her, he wanted her to suffer.
Elliot Stabler: He said he wanted her dead. I just wasn't listening.
Olivia Benson: Well, you weren't the only one in that room. I was there, too.
Olivia Benson: You hungry?
Elliot Stabler: I could go for a bite. Who's buying?
Olivia Benson: Well you are going through a divorce, and you do have four children, so I guess … you are.
Elliot Stabler: That's what I thought.
Kathy Stabler: (to Benson about Stabler) You're his partner. You give him stability. Elliot can't move on until he feels like he's on solid ground.
Elliot Stabler: ... I'm the longest relationship you've ever had with a man. You've no idea how bad things can get when a couple goes south.
Olivia Benson: And eight years in this unit tells me that I don't need to be married to know when an abusive man is escalating.
Miles Sennet: (as Benson arrests him) I swear I didn't touch her ...
Olivia Benson: Swear on what? The Bible? God? Your daughter? You have the right to keep your mouth shut.
Olivia Benson: So, are we okay?
Elliot Stabler: I just need space to disagree with you so that I don't feel like it's going to cost me our partnership.
Olivia Benson: You never been gun-shy before.
Elliot Stabler: Yeah, well, you know, things change.
Olivia Benson: Well, like you said, you're the longest relationship that I've ever had with a man. Who else would put up with me?
Casey Novak: Valerie Sennet says she was raped, her husband admits to assaulting her, and there's evidence of intercourse.
Elliot Stabler: Maybe she had sex with someone else. This is a hostile divorce ... crying rape is a pretty efficient way to get rid of an unwanted husband.
Casey Novak: When did you start working for the defense?
Elliot Stabler: The moment you were more interested in an easy close than the truth.
Casey Novak: My only interest is in being an advocate for rape victims. Now I thought that's what we do here.
Donald Cragen: We all do.
Elliot Stabler: It's our job to believe the victim, your honor.
Judge Harrison: I work in family court, and it's my job to believe whoever's lying the least.
Olivia Benson: Valerie Sennet has no reason to lie!
Judge Harrison: Sure, she does, for the spoils of war. Accuse the husband of abuse and tip the balance in your favor ...
Olivia Benson: Miles! (gunshots are heard)
Miles Sennet: Ah! Oh ...
Olivia Benson: Your ribs will probably hurt. Plastic bullets will do that to you.
Olivia Benson: Kathy. What's this about?
Kathy Stabler: I just want to know how everything is going?
Olivia Benson: With Elliot?
Kathy Stabler: He's what we have in common.
(Talking to Cragen about Benson and Stabler.)
Casey Novak: I thought you said they were working it out?
(While arresting Miles Sennet.)
Olivia Benson: You have a problem?
Elliot Stabler: Just nice to see someone else with an anger issue.
Olivia Benson: You want to read him his rights?
Elliot Stabler: No. He's all yours.
Olivia Benson: I grew up with an alcoholic mother, and abuse doesn't have to be physical to cause damage.

Special billing was given to Blair Underwood (Special Guest Star) and Michael Michele (and) in this episode.
Eriq La Salle makes his Law & Order: Special Victims Unit directorial debut, which reunites him with former ER castmates Mariska Hargitay and Michael Michele, and former ER writer and producer Neal Baer, now an executive producer with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. This was also a mini-reunion for three former Homicide: Life on the Street stars (Michael Michele, Richard Belzer and Peter Gerety), although none of the three shared a scene.
This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of the Roger Hargrave case. In September of 2005, Judge Richard Palumbo had dismissed a protective order barring Hargrave from going anywhere near his estranged wife, Yvette Cade. Less than a month later, Hargrave entered the cell phone store where she worked and doused her with gasoline before setting her on fire. Cade survived, with burns over 60% of her body and years of rehabilitation ahead of her, and Hargrave was charged with attempted murder. Yvette Cade has since become a well-respected advocate for the rights of abused women.
