  • A little girl dies in foster care, and you find out that her foster brother tried to save her like the princess in his favorite video game...but who is responsible for her death-her natural mother, foster mother, or foster grandmother?moreless

I thought this episode was great...the suspense is exactly why I watch this show...I watched with bated breath, I couldn't turn it off until I found out who was responsible for the little girls death...from the beginning, I didn't like and suspected the foster grandma, who interuppted her daughter and was quite...well, not nice...

I didn't really think it was the foster brother...I thought from the very beginning that whatever he had been through, he wouldn't hurt the little girl...and true to form, he was not only trying to save her, but he fought his own demons to testify against her murderer...moreless

  • Law and Order Special Victims Unit!

    9.5
A five year old named Cassie Adams is found murdered at a construction site, the weapon of choice, a handmade wooden sword is found nearby. The Detectives of the Special Victims Unit set their sites on any known sex offenders in the area. When a construction worker tells Detectives that he saw young Cassie at the site with her foster brother Glenn, they turn their sights on him. During their investigation however, they uncover that the children's foster mother and grandmother mat not be fit to care for them.

This is a great episode. I feel sorry for the children in this story, especially Glenn. He closes off to the world around him by retreating into a fictional video game. From personal experience, I know that being in your own little world is sometimes the best way to get away from your problems. It is too bad that he couldn't have received the love and care that he needed from a younger age.moreless
  • Excellent episode!

    9.5
A 5 year old girl in foster care is found murdered and one of the first suspects is her foster brother. It is then revealed that the foster mother's mother (played by Piper Laurie) was the one who beat the little girl to death. This episode dealt with how child abuse can very easily be passed on from parent to child. I was convinced that the son, Glenn was the one who killed his foster sister but as the episode went on, it showed that he was trying to protect her from the abuse she was suffering from both her foster mother and grandmother through a video game which ultimately helped solve the crime. The courtroom scene towards the end of the episode was a tearjerker, mainly when Glenn was testifying against his grandmother. The guest stars were all fantastic; Piper Laurie surprised me with how cruel her character was and Kathleen Wilhoite who portrayed her daughter was wonderful as well.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Fin mentions a tattoo of a 'Sword of Damascus'. Unless this was supposed to be a fictional reference, it was probably a mis-speak since the term 'Sword of Damascus' only has esoteric references from an obscure video game and old Italian movie. He probably meant the 'Sword of Damocles' from the well known Greek myth of Damocles.

  • QUOTES (8)

    • (Dorothy throws her cane on the floor to throw off Glen's testimony)
Alex Cabot: Your Honor, I object to the blatant intimidation on the part of the defendant.
Dorothy Rudd: I'm not doing anything.
      Glen: LIAR! You killed Cassie!

    • John Munch: Dammit.
Fin Tutuola: Here give me that.
Don Cragen: Maybe we should rethink the squadroom video arcade.
Dr. George Huang: Glen retreated into that video game.

    • Alex Cabot: Who died?
      Elliot Stabler: Dorothy Rudd.
Alex Cabot: Please tell me you're kidding.
John Munch: Just got a call from Rikers. Massive heart attack.
Fin Tutuola: Bitch didn't even suffer.
Don Cragen: Anyone else feel cheated?
Olivia Benson: Prosecution evaded by death.

    • Olivia Benson: What exactly is a gorgon?
Dr. George Huang: Are you familiar with Medusa?
Elliot Stabler: Glen's abuser is a woman.

    • Olivia Benson: How long have you been playing that game?
Dr. George Huang: Your captain has found his true calling.

    • Alex Cabot: Can I put Glen on the stand?
Dr. George Huang: He has no organic mental disease, but I don't think he's strong enough.
Alex Cabot: What if I prep the hell out of him?

    • (At the crime scene looking for evidence)
Fin Tutuola: What does that look like to you?
John Munch: (blandly) A death trap.
Fin Tutola: You're pathetic. That's the coolest fort ever.

    • Fin Tutuola: Why do we always get stuck with looking for the needle in the haystack?
John Munch: Takes me back to the Easter egg hunts of my youth.
Fin Tutuola: You're Jewish. Your parents hid eggs?
John Munch: My point exactly. All those futile hours of searching.

    • When Cragen gave out assignments he referred to Fin and Munch as the Super Mario Brothers. Super Mario Brothers was a popular video game for all the Nintendo consoles as well as a live action movie.
