When a fake crime scene is found in Central Park, Benson and Stabler find that Criminology student Rebecca Wheeler had been murdered and her body became the main focus of the mock crime scene. Based on the lack of DNA evidence and the way the crime scene was set up, they believe that the perp was a cop or at least had enough knowledge to know how to cover his tracks. They find that her advisor and her lover was none other than Javier Vega, who was arrested and served time for another murder for which the M.O. matches that of Rebecca's. Cragen was the arresting officer the first time he was picked up and felt that it was his duty to make sure the was locked up again. When they find new evidence that clears Vega, Cragen does whatever he can to make it right.

This is a good episode. It just goes to show that most cops will look to someone who has committed crimes in the past when a new one occurs. It was nice that Cragen took responsibility for his actions and did what he could to make the situation right.moreless

    • Olivia Benson: (while searching the suspect's empty car) He's with an older woman.
Elliot Stabler: How do you get that?
Olivia Benson: Take a whiff. Roses and lilies -- no woman under sixty wears that perfume.
Don Cragen: Could be his daughter --
Olivia Benson: Gabrielle Vega wears sandalwood. (pauses) Women notice these things.

    • Capt. Judith Siper: Scene's stone cold. Killer went out of his way to screw us on this one.
Elliot Stabler: He gets points for originality. Never seen a perp cordon off his own crime scene.
Capt. Judith Siper: Millions of places you can buy police tape. My son stuck it across his bedroom door.
