Deuthorn spent five years in the 48th precinct as a patrol officer prior to becoming a homicide detective.
Goof: In the scene where Munch was at the park, he had an umbrella. Then, when the camera turns and goes back to him, the umbrella is gone. There is no explanation as to where the umbrella went.
(Deuthorn is reading a tabloid magazine)
Fin Tutuola: How you read that trash?
Dave Deuthorn: Well, I got an inquiring mind.
Fin Tutuola: You get off on that psych stuff, don't you?
Dave Deuthorn: Average murder's one drug dealer shooting another, a bar fight or a domestic gone bad. Once you figure out the who, working Homicide's all about where the perps are and finding them.
Fin Tutuola: So?
Dave Deuthorn: Sex crime is about the why. The city's a three-ring circus and SVU's the freak show.
Fin Tutuola: And you wanna be the ringmaster.
Dave Deuthorn: I wanna know what makes them freaks.
Elliot Stabler: Missing dinner with my wife and kids. This better be good.
Dave Deuthorn: Naked women, fluids everywhere, both raped and shot in the head.
Fin Tutuola: That's our bread and butter.
Detective Deuthorn mentions that he's from Yonkers during a conversation. Erik Palladino was in fact born and raised in Yonkers, New York.

This episode was originally scheduled to air on 28 March 2003.
Jason Ritter is the son of television legend John Ritter, whose sole appearance in the Law & Order franchise was also in a Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode, "Monogamy."
This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of events referred to as the Wichita Massacre. Two brothers, Reginald and Jonathan Carr, spent three nights terrorizing the Kansas city. The 1st night, December 8, 2000, they car-jacked a man, but left him robbed in a field with a disabled car. On December 11, a botched car-jacking resulted in a victim who could identify her attackers before she died from her gunshot wounds four days later. Unfortunately, on December 14, those attackers invaded the triplex of three young men and two women who had come for dinner. The men raped the women, forced both men and women to perform other sexual acts, emptied bank accounts and looted the home. They then took the victims to an abandoned soccer field, shot the five execution-style and left them for dead. The one survivor managed to walk naked through the snow for help and later testify at the Carr's trial. They were found guilty and sentenced to death.
