Episode Summary

EDIT
The squad is at a loss on what to do with a violent homicide when Stabler's son points out that the event is straight out of a video game. Interviewing the game's creators leads them to a former employee, who then leads them (with a few other steps along the way) to a teenage couple who claim to be unable to distinguish fantasy from reality.moreless

  • This episode is one of the more intelligent discussions, on the contraversy surrounding game violence.

    10
This episode delt with the concept of game violence, without lowering themselves to spouting off stereotypes or myths about gamers. Like, for example, all gamers who play violent games will be the next serial killer.

They also pointed out the sheer irresponsibility the gaming companies, who put out these violent games. To mention one company, I feel is particularily like this, is Rockstar Games. You know, the GTA people. So that in essence, the people who make these type of games must be somewhat immoral, or at least just trying to find a easy way to get quick cash.

I admit I find that Stabler telling his son at the end, "Why don't you stop playing those games for awhile, and go out and play?", is a bit patronizing towards gamers. However, it does show how most parents who have kids that play video games, are relatively ignorant about the medium of gaming. So they would rather just have their child turn the game off, than get involved with what their child is doing. As well as suggesting a better alternative to violent games, as in most Nintendo games.moreless
  • this is an all guy episode, poor olivia has to go to a homicide course while the guys have all the fun :)

    7.6
i have to say now that without olivia benson svu wouldnt be half as good as shown in this episode shes only in it for about 2 mins then she goes off to a homicide course never the less the story line was still interesting with stablers son figuring out that the murder of a woman had been copyed from a computer game :)
  • Law and Order Special Victims Unit!

    7.0
While walking to a job, a young woman named Melody, who moonlights as an escort is hit by a car, raped, beaten and left for dead. The Detectives of the Special Victims Unit are called in and at first glance it looks like one of her clients may have needed to keep her quiet. When they find out that someone called in the attack to 911, but the way it was called in lead the Detectives to believe that the suspect may be a police officer. But the pieces of the puzzle starts to put themselves together when Detective Elliot Stabler's son Dickie tells the Detectives about a game called Intensity. When the game hits a little too close to home with the case, they try to figure out who is playing the game for real.

This was a good episode. It was nice that we got to see a little bit about Elliot's kids, even though it was only his son, and he was only on the episode for a couple of minutes. The storyline was interesting.moreless
  • Teens are suspected of rape and murder.

    10
Man runs over woman and then beats her to death. Called from a payphone in Lexington at 9:07 at an anonomous call. Stabbed with something like a screwdriver later found out to be a woman's stilleto. Under cover cop may have seen something, but can't blow his cover. The teens got the idea from a game called Intensity. Woman was a hooker and found out that she was not raped. They found the man who helped in the killing and then found him 10 blocks away killed... Ran over and beaten to death. Hit himself in hood by dumpster. The man who was involved in the killing killed himself by suicide when he was drunk. The teenage girl and guy found guilty in murder in 1st degree.moreless
  • Too Bad Olivia ain't in it that much!

    8.1
This is a topic that is far too overlooked.

As well as far too ignored.

When Elliot's son is playing a video game, it is a violent game.

Where people are getting robbed and killed by the criminals.

The team goes after the people who made that violent game.

I am glad that Casey had a bigger presence as she has grown on me a bit.

I thought Elliot would had hauled off and hit that federal attorney for being un-cooperative.

Had not Casey been in the same room with him.

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Goof: The controller that is used during the PET scan is actually a Nintendo GameCube controller except the colors are slightly different.

    • Goof: Cragen turns off the TV/game after Stabler's son shows them the game. After Cragen talks, though, the camera is back on the TV which shows the lady still on the screen bleeding.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Casey Novak: (her closing argument) Did Garrett and Louise get the idea from a game? Yes. We get ideas all the time. From books, from TV, from friends, from life, from everywhere. We don't act on them. We know that the idea doesn't justify the deed. Don't let Mr. Gates blind you to the facts. Real people ran over a real person, and then they beat her to death. Melody Quinn felt real pain. She bled real blood. And she died a horrible and lonely death. It was not a game. Now, did Melody's killers know what they were doing? Well, their taunting of Larry Tauber, the one member of their trio with the humanity to feel regret, proves that they did! Garrett Perle said it himself. It was a joke! Well, you know what? Murder is no joke! So don't let them use a game as an excuse for their cruel and callous actions.

    • Garrett Perle: (after his and Louise's conviction) Bang-bang. You're dead.
Judge Seligman: Get him outta here!

    • Louise Karnaki: Larry's a loser. I don't hang with him anymore.
Fin Tutuola: Then why call him so often?
Louise Karnaki: Don't know. To see how he's doing.
Fin Tutuola: Not too good, he's dead.
