Episode Summary

EDIT
Stabler's participation in a Take Back the Night rally at Kathleen's campus results in an extra case for him and Benson when a student claims she was raped. Unfortunately, the case turns out to be a "he said-she said" type with little evidence. Enter Sonya Paxton, and it can only get more complicated.moreless

  • Elliot's daughter Kathleen and Sonya Paxton make return appearances in this excellent episode of SVU

    10
This episode gets under the nitty gritty of rapes that take place on college campuses and the stuff that happens when someone reports one to them and not the police. Not that I'm trying to say ALL campus police & campus staff are incappable, it's just that this episode portrayed those two groups on the negative end of the spectrum.

Nice to see Stabler on good terms with his family for once; I can't remember the last time that he was. I think this was the harshest Stabler has been to someone all season, which is somewhat of a shock considering how he's acted in the past and last season. Compare him to how he acted last season and that season makes him look like a choir boy this season. I guess Christopher Meloni was telling the truth when he said the writers were going to tone down Stabler's attitude a little.

Christine Lahti, made a welcome return appearance. Whilst I didn't hate her as much as others did last season, her appearance in this episode is her best appearance, and easily trumps all her appearances last season.

I can somewhat sympathize with Stabler in this situation, I think he might of held back how he got the information due to Paxton's presence. It's easy to see her getting riled up over it, especially considering her and Stabler's history.

It was nice to see Kathleen again, and see that she's keeping her life together since season 10. I wonder if Kathleen's statement on the fact that as long she didn't act on behalf of the police a file can be used really holds water.

It's scary to think that there's a chemical of some sort out there that can be used to cause abortions without a woman's consent.

Overall, another fantastic episode to add to Season 12's growing pile; helped greatly with fantastic return appearances from CCH Pounder, Alison Siko, Kate Nelligan, Dick Latessa, and especially from Christine Lahti.

This season has been one of the best seasons this show has had in quite awhile, hopefully SVU can keep it up.moreless
  • Horrible, Season Filler Episode

    2.0
This Episode to beyond a shadow a belief. Was Horrible the whole rape and murder plot was so silly. I get the story of why a its a cause for rape then eventually murder, but come on The SVU Police Really spent to much time on a student who used Lube that gave the girl a miscarriage. Also the whole plot involving Stabler's daughter was allright but the Police spent to much time on a case that wasn't anything at all. Pathetic, Pathetic Pathetic. Thats all I can say. The ending was also very $hitty. Stabler's Daughter standing there standing there like she got justice hahahaha. But it was clever how she died as a side effect from the lube (infection death)

I hope I never see a lame plot like this ever again on SVU because I know in real life if the police spent that much time on a lube related miscarriage then this world has come to a very sad place. They already do this by wasting time on marijuana prosecution hahamoreless
  • Christine Lahti returns as Sonya Paxton as Elliott and Olivia investigate a rape and then find themselves looking at their suspect even more closely after another nasty incident comes to light.moreless

    7.5
A 'Reclaim The Night' rally attended by Elliott at Hudson University, where Kathleen Stabler is a student, turns out to be far more than a speaking engagement for Elliott when a young woman accuses a fellow student of rape. The problem for the SVU detectives is that the rape happened several months previously and the campus police are very little help.

Enter once again, Sonya Paxton, back from rehab and ready to do battle - usually with Elliott! The accused young man, it seems is quite the lady killer, although not literally, however, evidence emerges that this pre-med student knowingly used a drug when sleeping with his pregnant girlfriend which would cause her to have a miscarriage. The usual difficulties between Paxton and Stabler result in some nasty name calling but they both want justice for the young woman who takes some convincing that her boyfriend would be capable of something as cold-blooded as inducing a miscarriage.

Eventually, with the help of a judge (excellently portrayed by guest star, Kate Nelligan) the girl finds herself able to take the stand and testify against her boyfriend. The trouble is, she is found dead of Toxic Shock Syndrome, caused by the drug which was applied directly to her cervix during intercourse the night before her miscarriage.

Benson, Stabler and Paxton will get the lathario after all, however, on a charge of manslaughter, which is certainly better than what they had before.

I found Sonya Paxton less annoying than during Christine Lahti's previous stint on the show, which was nice, but the writers made Elliott come out with some extremely personal and nasty comments which were not becoming of a police officer and especially not when talking to a recovering alcoholic. Kate Nelligan has always been a fantastic actress though and played the part of a former rape victim herself very well.

This was an important episode in that it helped to showcase not only the dangers of excessive use of alcohol, but also the need to make sure that proper medical treatment is always sought and advice heeded.moreless
  • this episode did not disappoint...

    9.0
This episode was like a breath of fresh air after last week's disappointment and it took varsity rape from a totally different angle. I have to confess that when I read the synopsis before this episode was aired, I was thinking oh no, maybe it will be a boring episode after all because I mean what with ADA Paxton and all...but truly I loved her acting in this episode, she showed her compassionate side in this episode and I actually felt so sorry for her when a judge brought up her past drunk behaviour while in court. This episode talked about having faith in yourself and to do the right thing and the message was so aptly put forth. It was great watching this episode. Truly.moreless
  • One of the best of season twelve!!

    10
Well, this episode was just awesome. I was thrilled to see Christine Lahti again. You have to admit, she was absolutely great in this episode. She was caring, thoughtful and strong! All these elements are necessary for a good ADA and she got it. I even dare to say that she has some qualities that Diane Neal and Stephanie March had in their character. Maybe you won't agree with me but try to let your feelings go for our beloved ADAs and look at it objectively. I think she was doing a much better job than Melissa Sagemiller and I would prefer her to be the full time ADA on SVU.moreless

    • (Stabler tells Paxton about what Kathleen had done.)
Paxton: Your daughter?! You didn't have the balls to do your own dirty work, so you sent your kid to break the law for you?!
Detective Stabler: Nobody broke the law!
Paxton: What is wrong with you people?! GOD!! How many Brady violations do you have to get slapped with?! You can't keep screwin' up like this!
Detective Stabler: If you would just shut...! Just shut up for one second. I can explain.
Paxton: No, no, you shut up! I'll explain to you. Okay?! You just handed Chuck Mills a get-out-of-jail-free card!
Detective Stabler: Chuck Mills isn't going anywhere, because I didn't tell my daughter to take the file.
Paxton: Oh! Right! Right! And I should believe you, because you have a reputation for playing by the book, and it's beyond reproach!
Detective Stabler: You know somethin'?! I hope you're not on the sauce right now, 'cause I got a policy against strangling drunks. Go have a drink.

    • Olivia: Sonya, what are you doing here?
Sonya: You mean how did I escape the drunk tank?
Elliot: No, she means why us?
