  • Great Performances

    9.5
Like is often the case, SVU has provided a showcase for a superb actor's excellent performance. Charles Grodin shines in this episode as a member of the board of a private school that is being called out for repeated sexual abuses by teachers. He stands by the school that has served him an his ancestors well, until the truth cannot be ignored. As he realizes that the allegations are true and the effect the abuses have had on some students (one in particular) become clear, his demeanor changes from defiance to doubt, to surprise, to horror, to sadness, and finally to regret. This is all clear in Grodin's outstanding performance. Another seasoned actor, Elliott Gould gives a gripping portrayal of a former teacher who had relations with students who were of age. He now second-guesses himself concerning his own behavior and, especially, in not reporting abuses by other members of the faculty. In a smaller role, the great Buck Henry plays a former teacher who now suffers from dementia. The episode brings to light male-on-male sexual abuse that is too often swept under the rug.moreless

This could have been an interesting episode, but it was just too political and too over the top. Every episode now deals with a corrupt coverup by some prestigious organization. Go back to the days of the case of the week and the rape of the week, to put it bluntly.

This was just too political and too weird for my liking.
