  • An absolutely riveting episode.

A magnificent performance by Jeremy Irons (what else would you expect) highlights an episode that takes some amazing turns. Yes, there is a rapist that has to be caught, but from there the storyline differs radically from the normal SVU episode. I won't reveal any spoilers as this is a relatively new episode, but this story does not go at all where you expect it to. Even on a second viewing, I was glued to my chair as the plot unfolded.

The regulars (and the guest stars) on the show were more than able to match Iron's energy, and there are some genuinely creepy moments and a faced-paced conclusion. At the end, I felt more like I had watched a movie rather than episodic television. I'm a huge fan of this show, but I would recommend this episode to anyone, even if they weren't regular viewers.moreless

Man, what happened to this show? I missed the last two hour block, but this show has just really gotten bad as of late. They are getting too far away from the Law and Order formula, especially on this show, and they are just trying too hard to come up with edgy storylines. For a show involving rapes nearly every week, this show got by by not being over the top, but the idea of a religious assault of whores is even beyond what I have come to expect from SVU.

Not a great episode at all. This should really be the last season for the show.moreless
  • When you combine the brilliant and charismatic Jeremy Irons with the lovely A.J. Cook as guest stars, you have a winner already.

I have really been looking forward to this episode and it certainly didn't disappoint at all. I am a huge fan of both Jeremy Irons and A.J. Cook and have loved this show since its very first season so I knew it was going to be good as long as the script was well written, which it certainly was.

When Dr. Debbie Shields (A.J. Cook) is tied up and raped by a masked intruder and her partner, Ann Jackson, is brutally beaten by the same perpetrator, two young boys with a pair of binoculars and a camera accidently see the whole thing and take photographs. With the SVU on the case, the boys hand over a photograph, which matches an indentikit sketch given by victims of previous assaults.

As Ann Jackson's father, Dr.Cab Jackson (Jeremy Irons) rushes to his daughter's bedside, Benson and Stabler learn that he has been estranged from his daughter for 20 years and that he is a former sex addict who now treats other addicts in his capacity as a psychiatrist. Stabler is not impressed, believing that rapists and other such men all belong in prison rather than in treatment. When it later comes to light that Debbie's rapist mentioned that he was 'curing her of Falmouth' during the attack, it is soon learned that the Jackson family used to spend their summers there and Dr. Jackson, who was also addicted to alcohol at the time, believes he may have raped his daughter there but he cannot remember the details due to being drunk. We also learn that Ann and not Debbie was the intended victim.

In consultation with George Huang, (good to see B.D. Wong again as he is in too few episodes) Benson and Stabler make some inroads into the case and Elliot goes undercover in the treatment group that Cab Jackson runs as he is certain that, given the knowledge Debbie's rapist had of Ann's past, that the perpetrator is a member of Dr. Jackson's therapy group.

Turns out he was right, not that a patient was responsible but in fact a fellow therapist who assisted Dr. Jackson with his work. The good news is that the rapist was caught and, perhaps equally as importantly from the doctor's perspective, when a friend from Ann's past who was staying with the Jackson family at Falmouth when Ann was supposedly raped by her father comes forward and states that he did NOT rape Ann but in fact had consensual sex with her, the relieved dad learns that his addiction did not harm Ann and that the reason she has ignored him for 20 years was that he slept with the girl who was her first love.

An excellent episode and very well written. While it was great to see A.J. Cook again, I still greatly miss her character on 'Criminal Minds' so it was kind of bittersweet for me. Great performances from everyone involved though and certainly one not to miss.moreless
