  • All emotions wrapped up in one episode.

    9.7
All emotions wrapped up in one episode. You have death, anger, jealousy, ignorance and sadness all in one episode. It was unusual to see John Ritter (may his soul rest in peace) play the bad guy. He played a cold hearted SOB until the end of the episode when he found out the baby was really his. This episode shows what obbession and power over ones family and jealousy can do to a person. It shows that intelligence does not always take a presidence over emotions. I liked the part where Haung was talking to the perp and the perp says te shrink trying to shrink the shrink. John played a good part. Great episodemoreless
  • A woman is found in a parking garage, a Cesearean Section delivery having been performed on her baby.

    ** CONTAINS SPOILERS **

The episode overall is very good. But Stephanie March absolutely KILLS me in the end when she has the husband on the stand.

Through the course of questioning, she shows him that he was, in fact, that father of his wife's child, rather than the other man she'd been sleeping with and for whom she planned to leave him.

I love her delivery of the last lines of the cross-examination. When she asked, "Did he cry?" her voice dropped to just the right level. It's just an amazing bit of acting from March. I always love when there's just one line in an episode that totally stands out. That line, for me, has always been the main thing I remember about this episode.moreless
  • Law and Order Special Victims Unit!

    8.5
When Nicole Manning is found attacked in a parking garage, Benson and Stabler begin to look for evidence that can point them in the direction of her attacker. While in route to the hospital, they find that Nicole was pregnant, and the search turns to include any signs of the baby. The Detectives find that Nicole is married, but was also having an affair. They begin to suspect her boyfriend. Richard Manning, the victim's husband, becomes their number one target. He claims he killed the baby to end his wife's relationship with her boyfriend. But DNA proves that the baby was his own.

This is a very intereting episode. Not to mention it is the episode in which Mariska Hargitay met her now husband Peter Hermann.moreless

    • Olivia Benson: (to Stabler) Hey, you know everyone in that room is on your side. But we're not mind readers.

    • Elliot Stabler (referring to Kathy): One of us has to be able to sleep at night. She thinks I'm shutting her out.
Olivia Benson: You are. That's exactly what you do. You keep this up, you're gonna ruin the best thing you've ever had.

    • Olivia Benson: Nice place.
Female Junkie: I cleaned up especially for you.
Elliot Stabler: Your boyfriend doesn't mind the mess?
Female Junkie: Who says I've got a boyfriend?
Elliot Stabler: Come on... a girl like you? I'm sure you have a few.
Female Junkie: You coming on to me? I'm into that. Your friend can watch.

    • Elliot Stabler: If that baby had been born in a hospital, it would've lived!
Alex Cabot: That argument could also be used to condemn legal abortion.
Elliot Stabler: That's different. Abortion is the mother's choice.
Olivia Benson: I don't know, Elliot. You can't have it both ways. Either a fetus is a person, or it isn't.

    • Olivia Benson: His dirty laundry is cleaner than my entire wardrobe. Look, he has them all labeled: whites, colored, drycleaning.
Elliot Stabler: Anything marked 'bloody clothes'?

    • Don Cragen: Doc, I want you in on this search. You know how shrinks operate; time to give up your trade secrets.

    • Elliot Stabler: Each case gets a little more horrific than the last. I go home to my wife, what am I supposed to do? Talk about my day? Honey, today, some man cut a baby out of his wife's stomach. Pass the gravy.

    • Dr. George Huang: This happens all the time in nature. Most species aren't naturally monogamous.
John Munch: That explains my marital history.

    • Elliot Stabler: So, what was "lacking" in your relationship? Dick?
Dr. Richard Manning: Challenging my masculinity? A little amateurish, don't you think?
Dr. George Huang: Actually, I think he's challenging your masculinity because it's such an obvious weakness.

    • Alex Cabot: (questioning Dr. Manning on the stand) Did he cry? Did your son cry before you killed him?
Dr. Manning: (in tears) He only cried a little. He only cried a little.

  • NOTES (1)

    • Stabler is upset because the most they can charge the suspect with is illegal third trimester abortion because they cannot prove that the child was born live and killed after the fact. This contrasts with what was established prior in the Law & Order episode "Misconception," which stated that once the fetus reached twenty-one weeks, an individual could be charged with manslaughter if they caused the mother to miscarry or the fetus to cease development. According to real New York law, if the woman is over 24 weeks pregnant, the crime is abortion in the first degree.
