  • Olivia Benson continues to find out new things about her life.

    10
Overall, I loved this episode. This episode was chilling, and certainly kept me watching. I loved how Stabler was more helpful to Benson, and lied for her. That was a definate change in behavior. I loved how Benson kept her guard up about the whole Simon issue. It saddened me when she talked of wanting a family. Benson has lost a lot, and finding she has a brother out there I can understand how it is she feels- and can definately relate. I enjoyed every bit of this episode, especially at the end where Hendricks talked of Elliot and Olivia being too close.moreless
  • Great episode!

    9.9
I thought that this episode was amazing! It had a few EO moments (which are always appreciated), like the car scene and when they were in Liv's apartment. The story line was differnt because the main plot to this episode wasn't really the case, but Olivia trying to find her brother, which was a nice change of pace. But what made this episode one of my favorites was how they had Elliot and Olivia's evaluations throughout the entire episode. I thought that it really gave us some insight to what they were thinking throughout the entire process. One of my favorite lines is when the psychatrist tells Cragen that they are too close, but not to split them up because then he would lose his two best detectives.moreless
  • Very personal E/O Moments ... Great!

    10
I agree that „Philadelphia" wasn't like what we know as a typical SVU episode because of the scenes of the interview interrupting the main story line and because they focused so much on the personal stuff. But I loved this episode at all.

Even though we know that Eliott supports Olivia no matter what it was something knew that he supported what she was doing without questioning. That he listened to her after she discovered that her brother might be a rapist and that he came to her to give her some company.

And there were also very touching and sad moments in this episode when Olivia told Eliott about how much she wishes for a family and that she's been alone her whole life.

I think you could identify with her really well. Imagining how disappointed and hurt you have to feel when you finally find a member of your family after you have lost so much and then find out that he might be a rapist. Especially after they shared that evening in her appartment laughing and talking and getting to know each other better.

And we should not forget the case about the raped men which was also very touching and in my oppinion it's important also to deal with the issue of raped men.

I also loved how the episode ended.

    Interviewer: „They are too close"

Craigen „You recommend to split them up?"

Interviewer: „If you want to lose your two best detectives..."

For me „Philadelphia" was the perfect mixture of getting to know the two main characters even better by means of very personal E/O moments (which I always love :-) ) and a thrilling case, all characters involved and seeing something new (the interview scenes).moreless

  • Olivia finally meets her brother, but stumbles into a rape investigation--of which her brother is the main suspect. Meanwhile, her job suffers and the Captain considers splitting up her and Elliot.moreless

    9.0
This was a very pivotal and interesting episode. Olivia finally finds a living relative, problem is, he's the main suspect in a rape investigation. Olivia lies, bends the rules and jeopardizes her job and that of Elliot's in her pursuit to understand her father, her brother and ultimately who she is.

The writing was tight as usual as was the acting. It is quite a treat seeing Olivia, for the first time, siding with the alleged perp instead of with the victims, which is doubly troubling because she's a special victims detective. It's also a treat to see another side of Olivia's vulnerability, but I was nonetheless put off to see her being played so badly and obviously by her newly discovered brother. But this is the only family she has, right? She has to preserve that at all costs...?

It was also admirable to see Elliot sticking his neck out to save her behind more than once--actually, in about every scene. An interrogation is used to tell the story, working backwards from Elliot and Olivia's responses, and it's not the first time this technique has been used in SVU, but infrequently enough where it still works. Finally, for the love of me, I can't understand why Olivia was wearing a new black outfit in just about every scene. Was this episode filmed when her father passed, or something? Hopefully not, but either way, the outfits were slamming.moreless

    • Elliot Stabler: Why don't you go talk to Marsden.
Olivia Benson: And say what? "Hi, I'm Olivia. Your dad raped my mom." And, "Oh, I found you because I illegally ran my DNA."

    • Olivia Benson: This is none of your business.
Elliot Stabler: Yeah it is, we're partners.
Olivia Benson: Not on this. This is personal.

    • Olivia Benson: Being cute with Cap'n Crunch isn't going to make a difference.

    • Don Cragen: (to Olivia) Check Qinawi's description against recent parolees. See if we get a hit off one who reported being sexually assaulted in prison.
Olivia Benson: Most cons don't admit being raped, they don't want to be raped again.
Don Cragen: Even so, it's what I want you to do.

    • Dr. Rebecca Hendrix: Tell me about Olivia Benson.
Elliot Stabler: What do you want to know?
Dr. Rebecca Hendrix: What's she like as a police officer?
Elliot Stabler: She's experienced, professional, good with the victims. People trust her and they let her get close.
Dr. Rebecca Hendrix: Does she become emotionally involved?
Elliot Stabler: She does her job and when it's done, she goes home.

    • Olivia Benson: Last night, watching him in that window playing with that little boy ... I wanted to be part of a family, so much. I've been alone my whole life. (pauses) I'm sorry, I'm whining.
Elliot Stabler: You're not. Family's everything.

    • (Olivia and Elliot sit in his police car, where Olivia is obviously upset.)
Elliot Stabler: Liv, what is it? (no answer) Tell me.
Olivia Benson: My long lost brother Simon Marsden might be a rapist. Like father, like son.
Elliot Stabler: Maybe it's a mistake.
Olivia Benson: He's stalking women, Elliot. That's why the cops are looking at him. It's just a matter of time before he hits.

    • Dr. Rebecca Hendrix: In my opinion, Detectives Benson and Stabler have a degree of mutual reliance and emotional dependence that compromises their effectiveness as police officers.
Don Cragen: In other words ...
Dr. Rebecca Hendrix: They're too close.
Don Cragen: You recommend I split them up?
Dr. Rebecca Hendrix: If you want to lose your two best detectives.

    • Dr. Rebecca Hendrix: Tell me about Detective Stabler.
Olivia Benson: He's the best; smart, brave, dedicated.
Dr. Rebecca Hendrix: Do you trust him?
Olivia Benson: He's straight with me, I'm straight with him. I could tell him anything.

    • Casey Novak: We want to use your case to build support for President Bush's Prison Rape Prevention Act.
George Huang: We're giving these tapes to Dateline so America can learn all about the time that you suffered in prison.

    • Olivia Benson: What's your name?
      Jeff Trapido: Eat me, bitch!
Olivia Benson: That has a nice ring to it.

    • Fin Tutuola: Maybe these bozos don't have good gaydar.

    • Fin Tutuola: Bobby T. belonged to a prison gang.
Don Cragen: So what, every con is in a gang.
Fin Tutuola: You're not hearing me, Captain. He BELONGED to a prison gang. They owned him.
