An inmate named Carlos Torres is found sodomized and dead in his cell. Benson and Tutuola think that Carlos may have been caught in the Mexican / Dominican fight, once they find that he was a Dominican, and another inmate Hector Ramirez, who is a Mexican were in the infirmary at the same time. Based on the evidence that M.E. Warner finds, he was only dead for a few hours, but the injury had to have happened before he was put in his cell. He was suffering from trauma due to the fact that he was sodomized while in police custody. Benson and Tutuola have to go back to the precinct that arrested Torres to find out exactly what happened.

This was a decent episode. It wasn't one of my favorites, but it was worth watching. It was nice to see the Detectives switch it up a bit. Elliot wasn't really seen in this episode, so it gave Olivia the chance to work with Detective Fin Tutuola.moreless
  • Something about going up against their own that appeals to me in cop dramas.

    9.3
Just like the previous epsisode, the SVU goes up against dirty cops. I find these episodes the best of the lot. Something about having to go up against your own and their betrayal of the oath, that resonates.

This particular epsisode two dirty cops are killing off criminals. One does it to get these bad apples of the streets under some misguided honour thing. The other does it for cold hard cash.

The twist at the end sees us return to a character from the beginning of the episode who as discounted as a suspect. Ironically, it is a bad guy who is paying the cop to get rid of his competition.

Pay close attention to Mariska's single mindedness in her pursuit of their quarry. Even though she gets her man, the fallout from the "bad" cops being arrested opens the floodgates for other criminals to appeal their sentences. Another source of conflict as she says at the end that she did the right thing to her boss!

This why I think that the episode is seamlessly written. The acting is very good and therefore its a fine example of why anyone should watch this.moreless

    • Edmunds: We got called out on a domestic case. The husband and wife were going at each other, as soon as we walked in the door, I didn't see the gun. Cooper jumped in front of me and held the bullet in his hand.
Olivia Benson: And you've been repaying the favor since?
      Edmunds: He saved my life.
Olivia Benson: He did it for two Mercedes' and a condo.

    • Alex Cabot: You still haven't answered my question, where is your evidence?
Olivia Benson: He's a murderer. How else could he have afforded that new Mercedes?
Alex Cabot: That's a very good question.

    • Prison Nurse: Suicide, he hasn't been dead long, an hour, two at the most.
Olivia Benson: He couldn't take it.
      Prison Nurse: His sentence?
Olivia Benson: Living with what he'd done.

    • Olivia Benson: You wouldn't do what they did.
Fin Tutuola: It's not like I haven't thought about it, every cop alive has.
Olivia Benson: There's a difference in thinking about it and actually doing it.

    • This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of the Abner Louima case in which Louima was arrested and beaten and sodomized with a plunger by officers in the bathroom of a police station.
