  • Bizzare but very strong storyline

    9.6
I am a bit surprised that all "Helen" got was manslaughter but serves her right. The little girl in the beginning just about stole my heart, only to be murdered by this so-called "Father." Loved how Eliot and Oliva got her to talk over food; probably hadn't had a square meal in months. The writers did well in setting up the dark atmosphere which is all too common with the homeless. I figured there was something up with Cassidy, aka Helen; her hair looked too good to be homeless. Somone could do an entire season worth of homeless stories and it would never get repetitive; an idea for a series, perhaps?moreless
  • The episode was okay.

    7.3
After waiting through this strike-induced drought, this show was a bit disappointing. It wasn't bad. I just thought that the story lacked shock value. The homeless man committing murders just didn't impress me.

I thought that the best scenes were the ending court scenes with Casey. I liked how they flipped the tables on that "homeless" girl who was actually an upper class New Yorker. It was weird how her husband was so proud of his ability to tell the truth. When she'd testified against him, he'd protested, saying that he was innocent. It's just strange that he's proud of being an honest murderer. I think that TPTB were hoping to impress us with this "weirdness" but it was still too bland for me.

The episode was good, well acted. But it was average. Just my opinion.moreless
  • coercion by food? what?

    9.4
This episode reminded me of the "good ole days" from svu back in the beginning.

The detectives worked well together and were in sync with each other the whole time, especially during what surely will become "the infamous food scene". There were also a few points of comic relief delivered by both Fin/Lake and Stabler/Benson. The whole "homeless family" concept was new to me. i hadnt ever heard anything about that before so i was very intrigued by it.

Although i wish circumstances would have turned out differently for Josie, Cassidy/Helen may not have come forward and they wouldnt have nailed her.

And how awesome was Casey's smugness facial expression toward Cassidy/Helen at the end?! Counselor Casey doesnt even have to speak to portray her awesomeness! :D Overall, great eppy! (i dvr'd it and watched it again right after it was over :D)moreless

  • Great episode...but very hard to watch.

    8.9
SVU in general is a show that can test you at times. Sometimes while watching it a person may feel just horrible, and this one is...well almost like that. A rich teen is found dead in the park, but this is not the worst part. The SVU detectives end up immersed in the lives of a group of homeless people, all willing to do anything for the "father" of the clan. After watching this I felt incredibly lucky for the life I live and everything that I have, and I also felt... wiped out. It had a few good plot twists and is a great episode but it is almost painful to watch. I think that it is worth watching, so that at least you can realize what people are capable of of. And just how hard life could be. Great episode, I recommend it.moreless

    • Cassidy Cornell: They never had any time, except to boss me around. "Don't slouch dear, eat your vegetables, call up your tutors, get to your lessons, keep up your grades or you won't get into a good college." They smothered me with their rules.
Elliot Stabler: They acted like parents.
Cassidy Cornell: No! I'm a parent, and I would never act like that.
Elliot Stabler: Yeah, and now 6 people are dead.

    • Elliot Stabler: Look at her, her eyes gouged out, her cheeks split from ear to ear!
      Cassidy Cornell: Please, stop!
Olivia Benson: Stop? I bet that's what Josie said, only Cole didn't listen. The M.E. said she was tortured for over 12 hours!

    • (Stabler cuffing Cole.)
Cole Roderick: You're gonna break my wrists!
Elliot Stabler: I'm Irish, but I'm not that lucky.

    • Doug Walshen: I would never kill Shelby.
Elliot Stabler: But you'd bang her friend.
Doug Walshen: That's what guys do; Anna's just a mattress.
