  • after a mother and daughter are found brutally raped and murdered, the investigation leads to a man who turns out to be munch's uncle.

    8.5
I think this episode was interesting. I always like the episodes that deal with detective's personal lives. One of my complaints is that this is supposed to be a munch epiosde but the actual plot surrounding the story was completely about Dani. I think munch should have participated in the actual investigation. I strongly disliked the scene where dani and elliot are in the car. That better be as close as they are going to get. I swear they had more dani/elliot moments in that one episode than they had olivia/elliot moments in like the whole last season. I think dick wolf is doing this on purpose to make us mad...

anyways back to the episode at hand... i like how there was some funny bits. Like when casey said "well i guess i suck". That was classic. and when dani said in the microphone "so nochance of us finding any of your semen on her clothes" when the suspect guy was playing tennis. (I hate to admit dani had a funny line...) Anyways all in all a good episode. I hope dani feels guilty about that guy dying at the end because it was somewhat her fault.moreless
  • Definitely one of the best episodes of the series.

What a great episode. Jerry Lewis was amazing as Andrew Munch. I really thought for a while that he was going to have been crazy and killed the mother/daughter but not remember. I really like what they are doing with Dani Beck. I'm a huge Benson fan and really wasn't sure I'd like the new character, but I think she's a great addition and I hope they will keep her after Mariska comes back. I think there is always room for another detective in the squad. The story was great, they of course figured out who the perp was, but unfortunately couldn't prove it. I do have a feeling that Andrew Munch will be back at some point and time. I certainly hope so.moreless
  • Jerry Lewis guests stars as Munch’s Uncle Andrew, who is a suspect in a double rape/murder case of a mother & daughter.

    9.3
Wow! I really liked this episode. I didn’t even recognize Jerry Lewis at first. The opening crime scene was especially gruesome with the mother & daughter tied up on the bed together and the daughter holding her mother’s crucifix tightly in her fist. Dani had an expected bad reaction to the scene. Elliot told her that everyone feels like that and when she shrugged off that she would get used to it, he told her that’s when you should get out. The victims had lots of cuts on them and Melinda later found that they were masking bite marks underneath. The investigation led the detectives to look for a homeless man that the daughter and her friend had taken food to in the park. They found him living in a cardboard box which was covered with newspaper articles about sex crimes. I knew that this character was supposed to be played by Jerry Lewis but I really didn’t recognize him until they cleaned him up later. I think he did a great job with his role. They took him to the station and tried to question him but he seemed disoriented. They later had to take him to the ER and the doctor told them that he probably suffered from Alzheimer’s. They also found another suspect, Brent Banks, for the murders that had served time for another victim that had extensive bite marks all over her body. He was a very attractive guy and quite full of it. They had discovered that the mother had scratched her assailant and asked to look at his body for scratches. He happily took off his shirt for Dani and told her to look all she wanted. She was pretty cool with her response and she managed to get a tooth impression from his gum. We also learn in this episode that her husband’s murderer is serving time. Brent Banks is put on trial for the murders but the teeth impressions from the bite marks that indicted him end up being deemed unworthy as evidence and the case is thrown out. That solicited a scene where Dani tried to get in Casey’s face but I loved Casey’s response of “I suck”. Always gotta love the new people who try to tell you how to do your job of so many years.

John reveals that the homeless man is his Uncle Andrew and he later finds out that Andrew had left his living community in Florida to come visit him 4 months ago. John asks George to take a look at his uncle and George diagnoses Andrew with depression. Unfortunately, the meds that Andrew is given trigger him to begin to have manic episodes. After overhearing Dani talking with Brent’s former victim in the station, Andrew believes that Brent should be killed and sets off to help Dani get the job done, at least in him mind. In the end, it’s a very interesting situation for John to be in considering how he feels about doctors and medicating, but his uncle could have been helped with just a different medication. I love it when they give John the controversial issues. I still find Dani a little abrasive but it didn’t bother me so much in this one. More than practically one scene with Cragen & Fin would have been nice, that’s probably my only complaint. It was really great to see a relative for Munch, and we got to see his apartment. Interesting. I’d love to record that scene, and play it in slow motion just to observe what’s in his apartment.moreless
  • ok episode...

    8.2
i actually kinda liked the episode... DAni was annoying, but whatever she does she will be considered annoying cuz she not Olivia....

I've never really felt invested in Munch, however i like to learn about all the characters lives....

Casey was funny, which is rare...

soo all in all it was a decent episode... However, i feel like they are all filler episode until Mariska Hargitay comes back... but i am assuming all real hardcore SVU fans fell the same way... this episode was nothing special which i guess is the defintion on a filler episode.. .Can not wait to MH Comes back... even tho i like Chris Meloni better, but whatever...moreless
  • The Nutty Professor lives in a cardboard box, doctors are idiots, and be careful what you say...someone may be listening!

    9.6
First and foremost, a brilliant job done by Jerry Lewis as Andrew Munch (John\'s uncle). I hope he wins at the very least an emmy nomination (if not the emmy) for this performance. The story starts as a mother and daughter are found murdered in their apartment. The investigation leads them first to the landlord of the building. We find out that they were in need of money and that he had offered her a break in the rent in exchange for sex. As they further investigate, one of the daughter\'s friends tells the detectives about a homeless man they bring food to. The homeless man turns out to be Andrew Munch who has been suffering from pseudo dementia (previously misdiagnosed by the ER team as suffering from Alzheimer\'s). He is given meds and within a week he is almost back to normal. Andrew overhears a conversation Dani Beck has with the suspect\'s first victim (victim says she wishes NY still had the death penalty and Beck says she\'d like to be the one who would stick the needle in his arm).....at the trial, the evidence against the suspect is thrown out and he was freed.

On her own time, Dani decides to stake out the suspects home to see if she can catch him. Stabler joins her and soon Andrew is calling Dani on her cell to tell her she needs to kill the suspect. Stabler calls Munch to tell him about his uncle and John takes Huang to his apt (thinking Andrew would be there) but arrives to find Andrew has gone rifiling thru John\'s things. Huang asks John if he kept work files in his apt and he acknowledges he does. In the meantime, Beck and Stabler see a woman enter the suspect\'s apt and in the distance on the street, Dani sees Andrew walking towards the suspects apt. Beck and Stabler catch Andrew and they call John to have him go and get Andrew. Dani asks Andrew to watch the house for them. Beck and Stabler follow the suspect and the girl into a subway and while they are watching, Andrew comes out of nowhere and pushes the suspect in front of an oncoming train, thereby killing the suspect.

A very good episode. Dani can get on my nerves sometimes but she\'s pretty much a keeper. As I\'ve said, once Olivia gets back from her \"undercover\" work, I\'d like to still see Beck from time to time. She might be able to fit in somehow...moreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Elliot Stabler: Do we need a search warrant for a cardboard box?
Dani Beck: Believe it or not, I think there's precedent.
A reference to the original Law & Order episode "Asylum", where the search of a lean-to in Central Park was thrown out as it was considered to be the perpetrator's home. Logan and Cerreta did not have a warrant.

    • John Munch is reunited with his uncle, Andrew Munch. Munch's father killed himself when Munch was 13.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • (Stabler talks to Uncle Andrew after he pushed Brent Banks onto the subway tracks.)
Elliot Stabler: Andrew, what have you done?!
Uncle Andrew: We did it. We did good. (turns to Beck) We did it, Dani. We did good!

    • Uncle Andrew: (tries to speak out in trial) Your Honor, may I address the court?
John Munch: Uncle Andrew, sit down.
      Judge Bradley: Who's this man?
Uncle Andrew: (about Conrad) This so-called attorney is telling outright lies! But you can see that, can't you?
Judge Bradley: Sir, you need to be quiet.
John Munch: Your Honor, I'm sorry. This man is not well.
Uncle Andrew: I hope you're not stupid enough to fall for this! She's trying to trick you!
Judge Bradley: (bangs gavel) Court officers!
Uncle Andrew: What is wrong with you?! Why are you trying to set this monster free?!
      Judge Bradley: Remove this man!
John Munch: Uncle Andrew, please! Come on.
Uncle Andrew: (to Brent) Retribution is coming, buddy. I know a detective who has big plans for you. He wants you dead!
Judge Bradley: Get him outta here before I throw him in jail!
Uncle Andrew: You can't bar me from these proceedings! Do you really not know what he's done?!
Judge Bradley: That's enough, sir! Please!
Uncle Andrew: He's the one that should be put to sleep like a rabid dog!
Judge Bradley: Order! Do you hear me?!
Uncle Andrew: (as Munch and the court officers escort him out) If you don't euthanize him, you're either corrupt, or you're an idiot!
Judge Bradley: Get him outta here!

    • Dani Beck: (reading from a newspaper clipping) "Man wearing George Bush mask pulls girl into alley and sexually assaults her Halloween night".
Elliot Stabler: Or at least she assumed it was a mask. We never did catch that guy.

    • (To Dani, after he learns his uncle overheard an interview.)
John Munch: You were interviewing her out in the open? Don't you know anything about Special Victims?
Dani Beck: I was bonding with a victim!

    • Dani Beck: Maryellen had so many bite marks on her body doctors couldn't count 'em all.
Brent Allen Banks: Well ... one man's bite is another man's hickey.

    • (Stabler tries to make Beck feel better about getting sick after finding the bodies of a mother and her ten-year-old child.)
Elliot Stabler: Just so you know ... everybody loses it their first kid case.
Dani Beck: I'll get used to it.
Elliot Stabler: When that happens, transfer out.

    • Casey Novak: The bite mark evidence was thrown out.
Dani Beck: Well, get it back in.
Elliot Stabler: Judge already ruled on it.
Casey Novak: And because that evidence was our case, he threw out the indictment.
Dani Beck: How could you let that happen?
Casey Novak: I guess I suck.
