  • Duller than most episodes

Still a good view, but dont expect much excitement here, nor any emotional stakes for that matter. Usually, Ill up for any show that will impart some aspect of history or warfare from which to learn, but there really is very little here.

From the off, there is no connection with the victim. This results in little vested intrest to see justice done. However, this link is built up fairly ok over the course of middle and final acts as we learn that the vet is a "good guy" and deserves justice.

The only intriguing aspect of this episode is the dynamic between the vets. The script does a good job of demonstrating that in the face of adversity where men are sometimes forced to do unpleasant, indeed illegal actions. As long as one man stands for justice, they can undo the wrong done!

Still, this episode wont make good viewing for the majority. Often slow paced, lack of interesting location and pedestrian dialogue, means this one is for hardened L&O vets. It was borderline on the off button for me!moreless

    • Anita Van Buren: And what could be the motive?
Lennie Briscoe: An old army grudge, who knows?
Ed Green: Hey, we can put Fletcher and Tinsdale on the line and see if any can ID them.
Anita Van Buren: (laughing) You really think I'm gonna drag a mayor into the house on the word of some gang-banger?
Lennie Briscoe: I didn't know that mayors from New Jersey had diplomatic immunity.
Anita Van Buren: Lennie, listen, even if Ling can make an ID we need a motive, otherwise the D.A.'s gonna laugh in your faces when you ask him to write this one up. Now, if you think it has something to do with the army, then run it down.
      (she leaves)
Ed Green: I hate to admit it, but she's right.
Lennie Briscoe: She does that every now and then.

    • Ralph: Detective Briscoe, come in for a shoe shine?
Lennie Briscoe: No, working on a case, Ralph.
Ralph: Uh oh, what'd I do?
      Lennie Briscoe: Not you.

    • Lennie Briscoe: My feeling is, whatever family this guy had gave up on him long ago.
Anita van Buren: Autopsy report says he gave up on himself.

    • Dr. Elizabeth Rodgers: This guy drank, smoked, you name it.
Ed Green: You can't make that chest wound his fault.

    • This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of the Senator Bob Kerrey controversy. Kerrey, a Vietnam war veteran, was accused of being involved in the massacre in Than Phong and there were critics who suggested he should return his Bronze Star.
