Wow, Law and Order hasn't done jury tamporing for a long time, unless my memory alludes me, so that was interesting to see here tonight. I love when the show does things a bit more involved than Michael and Connie simply trying to put away a bad guy. That gray area is what Law and Order needs.

I liked the woman who was entranced by the suspect tonight. Another thing that has not been done on the program in some time. The storyline was good tonight, very good. For some reason I just do not feel the show is giving us enough this year. Law and Order feels fresh and revitalized, but it still can be better.moreless

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Jack McCoy: This has gone far enough, Mike. The case is a shambles.
Michael Cutter: Well, I'm not offering him another plea. He's taking the stand tomorrow, I can get him!
Jack McCoy: You're staking a lot on your ability to break him, maybe too much. Just remember, Conway's not the only one who does cost-benefit analyses of behavior; I do, too.
Michael Cutter: W-w-w-well I'm no bean counter, and if I have to go out on the ledge with Conway to get him… then that's what I'll do.

    • Jack McCoy: (to Dr. Skoda) What were you saying about risk-taking and an inflated sense of self? How many markers on that scale does Mike hit?

    • Dr. Emil Skoda: Risk-taking, inflated sense of self, promiscuity; there are 20 markers on the PCLR scale of psychopathy. Conway ticks most of them.
Jack McCoy: I thought psychopaths were hyper-rational. This guy's a runaway train.
Michael Cutter: He's not so out of control. He went from robbing gas stations to escorts because they weren't likely to report him.

    • Ray Backlund: Your case is all hat and no cattle.

    • Cyrus Lupo: A rat-wrangler and a rub-down girl. Ain't love grand.

    • (Justine Stebbins' body is found in a hotel)
Cyrus Lupo: Security cameras cover this area?
Hotel Manager: No, just the main entrance and lobby. Our guests like their privacy.
Cyrus Lupo: Yeah, I'm sure her killer did too.

  • NOTES (3)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of the 2009 "Craigslist Killer" case in which Boston University medical student Philip Markoff was accused of luring escorts to hotels and robbing them to support his gambling habit, and in one instance murdering one who resisted being handcuffed with a zip-tie.

    • "Brilliant Disguise" is also the title of a Bruce Springsteen single from the 1987 album Tunnel of Love.
