      • Lennie Briscoe: I'm a fan of Patrick Ewing, I don't send him threatening letters.

At the time of this episode, NBA player Patrick Ewing was the starting center for the New York Knicks.

      • Coach: After Monica Seles, you'd figure they get the message.

In April of 1993, tennis player Monica Seles was stabbed in the back between the shoulder blades during a quarterfinal match by a deranged fan of her opponent.

      • Mike Logan: All Mark Chapman wanted was an autograph.

Mark David Chapman was the deranged fan who fatally shot John Lennon on December 8, 1980. Chapman had gotten an autograph from the famed Beatle earlier in the day.

      • This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of the Tonya Harding case. In January of 1994, Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was attacked and hit hard in the knee. Harding, her prime competition was suspected of the crime but denied any involvement. Weeks later, Harding admitted her involvement in exchange for a plea bargain where she served no jail time. Also charged were Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt, Shane Stant and Derrick Smith. Harding began a new career as a boxer in the 2000s.
