This episode started off really exciting (a guy going around shooting cops, Cyrus Lupo ready to go all Norman Bates on somebody) but things took a toll for the worse when the actual detective work started. I think that is the problem with the Law and Order franchise and why the ratings are declining. The program can still create these compelling and intriguing backgrounds, but when they get back to the station and start yacking, and the lawyers struggle to put together a case, I think that is when the show loses people.
The Mentalist is able to keep you hooked throughout the whole legal process. Psych keeps you entertained through the whole show, but they are not really comparable as they deemphasize the actual legal process, and that is not exactly in the cards for a show called Law and Order. I still think that they need to focus on keeping things fresh while we work out in our minds who did it though.
