      • Lennie Briscoe: A slow boat from China. This is probably a play on the song "A Slow Boat To China," written in 1947 by Frank Loesser. It has been recorded by Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Jimmy Buffett and others.

      • Ed Green (as he and Briscoe are going through Lotus Blossom's closets): Everything for the accomplished ecdysiast. Ecdysiast is a fancy term for stripper, derived from the Greek word ecdysis meaning 'to molt or shed one's outer covering'. The coining of the word (in 1940) is often attributed to American journalist and satirist Henry Louis Mencken (1890-1956).
