  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • The title of this episode, "Night and Fog", is a reference to Nacht und Nebel, a directive signed by Adolf Hitler in 1941 that resulted in the disappearance of many political activists throughout Nazi-held territories.

    • Ben Stone: Last month my daughter was reading The Diary of Anne Frank.

Anne Frank was a Jewish teenager from Holland. She spent months hiding from the Nazis in her father's warehouse with some of her family members and other people. Her diary was written during this time. It is currently read all over the world, it has been made into movies and plays, and it has been translated into many languages. The Frank family was eventually found and captured. Anne died in a concentration camp from typhoid fever. She was 15.

    • It's no coincidence that "Night and Fog" is also the title of Alain Resnais' famed 1955 documentary on the horrors of Auschwitz.
