One of the very good episodes that keeps you watching and guessing till the very end.
This could be called a Jack's episode, especially when his close friend, Danielle Melnick, is revealed to be involved in a conspiracy with her defendant. The perpetrator is locked and prevented from communicating with the world outside since he feels his mission to be to cleanse the States from bad lawyers. Melnick is convinced these measures are inadequate and violates them, which leads to another murder. Jack has a hard time accepting his friend could do something like that and pays her a visit to offer her a surrender to the police. Melnick cooperates with the prosecution and gets a walk. Her former defendant's associate shoots her waiting for an elevator.
A strong story and formidable acting - I appreciated mostly Danielle Melnick - the horror in her eyes when she realized what she'd done. I loved this one.moreless

A controversial defense attorney, who had just won acquittal of a cop killer who also injured another officer, is gunned down the same evening outside a Manhattan restaurant during a party celebrating the verdict. The detectives first focus their investigation on the police officers in the precinct of the injured officer and then on the crippled officer's brother. They are finally led to investigate a white supremacist who is part of a national network of white supremacists and violent racists and fascists. As the case develops Jack McCoy is faced with the unlikely prospect that the murder defendant's attorney and McCoy's friend of 20 years, Danielle Melnick, was involved in an earlier murder of a Florida district attorney following the defendant's arrest. McCoy is able to make a deal that preserves the integrity of his adversary, but not without a significant cost.moreless

Ed Green: Tell that to Amadou Diallo's family.African immigrant Amadou Diallo was shot 19 times by four white NYPD officers who had mistaken him for a wanted rapist and thought he was armed (they thought Diallo's wallet was a gun). The officers were acquitted of any criminal charges in his death, which was widely blamed on racial profiling.
