The body of a teacher, suspected of having an affair, is found in a car trunk and the investigation involves husband and father-in-law, both of whom are psychiatrists.
  • As clever as always for this programme; well-written, above average episode.

    "Great"
This is a good example and an above average episode of this series, as there's both an interesting dilemma when we get to the courtroom scenes and a tricky piece of plotting on the preceding detective work by our old friends Messrs. Briscoe and Green.

The Dorothy of the title is Dorothy Graham, postgraduate student and wife of psychiatrist Perry Graham, who in turn is the son of psychiatrist Harlan Graham - Dorothy's therapist. Can you say 'conflict of interest?' Harlan is an exponent of the 'surrendered wife' school of thought, which might be embarrassing should his son and daughter-in-law not have a perfect marriage. Of course, Dorothy's body being found in the boot of a Mercedes doesn't help either.

The plot twists are interesting, with those that are obvious being logical and twisted sufficiently away from clich and obviousness to be interesting. Briscoe is on top form, as is Van Buren, nicely. Jack McCoy sticks to his guns against a tricky opponent (I won't issue a spoiler by telling you whether or not this pays off).

Overall, an above average episode of this always good series.
