- Mike Logan: It's the post-Kitty Genovese era. No one wants to look, they think they'll get involved. In March 1964, 28-year old Catherine 'Kitty' Genovese was stabbed to death in Queens, NY. Although at least 38 people witnessed the stabbing, none of them intervened or called the police. This phenomenon, the unwillingness of bystanders to help in an emergency, is known as bystander apathy.
