I appreciate this episode. It has brought something quite new to the series. From the very beginning we are not talking about a plain murder but about a manslaughter or a criminally negligent homicide. And more than looking for the doer, the detectives are focused on finding the taken-away monkeys that present a big potential risk to anyone who approaches them as they have been infected with HIV-virus. Once they are found, the police can search and arrest the offender. The trial is then a formidable clash of two completely different concepts of view of animals, neither of which can be entirely turned down. I really liked the scene when the mother of the defendant comes to Jack to ask for a plea offer for her son, she was so real.
Once again an above average episode whose innovative plot is worth watching.moreless

That year an obscure African filovirus was transported to a D.C. lab and caused some lab monkeys to get infected and die. The Army, CDC and a private company worked together to stop a potential outbreak in the nearby human population. The details of this incident were told in the book, The Hot Zone by Richard Preston.
