      • Jubal: He's going to maim you, Marshal. I've seen him shoot. And that boy's a surgeon with a six-gun. I tried to talk to him, I tried, but it don't do any good. He promised his pa he's going to shoot your arm off.
Dan: Well, he may think he's a surgeon, but when it comes to the operation, what looks good in theory may not work out in practice. That kind of surgery takes a special kind of nerve.

      • Jubal: (reciting poetry) The horse and cow live thirty years and nothing know of wines and beers. The goats and sheep at 20 die, and never taste of scotch or rye. The dog at 15 cashes in without the aid of run or gin. All animals are strictly dry, they soon must live and swiftly die. But gin full, sinful rum-soaked men survive for threescore years and ten, and none of them but just a few stay pickled till they're 92.

      • Dan: What'll get you, boy?
Jim Malone: Your arm. That's all I want. And Pa'll take you from there.
Dan: You think that's what your father wants? Arms don't make a man, boy. It's what's inside that counts.

      • Dan: Half the town's holding silent funeral services for me, the other half's holding bets.
