  • Dan must help a friend who is being chased by a rogue deputy. Although, the sheriff is still around, the deputy has been calling the shots. The deputy kills a woman, and then kills a member of his own posse, and tries to blame it on Dan's friend.moreless

This is pretty much a solo effort from John Russell. Peter Brown only appears very briefly and has just two lines. I kind of think this was shot during season one, because they use the season one credits. Also, one of the recurring themes for season one was Dan going solo, and leaving Johnny to look after things while he's gone. Lee Van Cleef does a great job here as the rogue deputy, who is giving the orders in spite of the sheriff still being there. This is a chance to show off Dan's courage in the face of danger. Sneaking his friend back into his own territory was also a good twist. I kept waiting for Johnny to come looking for him, and join the closing faceoff against the posse, but alas, I guess we can't have everything.moreless
