Old Stefano brings his injured dog in to see the vet. Tracy McNeil is trying to make a business deal with Lily. During an accident, the horse breaks its leg. McNeil pays the vet to leave the dog and come see his horse. The horse is later found shot.
I didn't like make Stefano a mute. I know why they did it, but it just didn't work for me. I was really surprised at the degree of animal violence. You had the dog injured by a bear attack, and a horse lying dead in the stall. The good part of the show was the conflict between Tracy and Dan over Lily. She was hoping he'd be jealous, and he tries to pretend he's oblivious, which riles her up even more. Johnny does a good job here of egging him on. The accident scene was also pretty intense. The stuntwoman for Lily flying into the air off that buggy. So of the scenes I recognized as the ones used in the promos on Encore Westerns for this series. Dan getting shot was a surprise, but I think it added to the story. The closing scene with Dan, Johnny, and Lily was a nice touch.
