We get to learn more of Dan's past in this episode. As a deputy, Dan allowed Boone to talk him into letting him go, and promising to go straight. That turned out to be the first of many lies Boone would tell. This time Boone claimed that if he turned Billy in, he was going to get a full pardon, and go straight. Dan wanted to take him in, but couldn't because he wasn't wanted in the Wyoming territory. There were two other great exchanges in this episode. The first was between Johnny and Billy. Billy tells Johnny he's crazy for the risks he takes as a lawman. Johnny then explains why they do what they do. The other exchange was between Dan and Lily. Lily tries to talk Dan into letting Billy go, because he isn't worth losing his own life over. Dan tells her that his code of honor as a Lawman, won't allow him to do it. As he's leaving, you can see the tears starting to form in her eyes. You can really see how much she cares for Dan. Then after the shots are fired, she comes running out of the Birdcage to make sure that he's alright.moreless
