Dan's old friend, Major Jason Leeds, has come to Laramie to offer Johnny an appointment to West Point. Johnny has never considered a military career, and wants Dan to tell him to stay. Dan can't and won't make the decision for him. We can tell he really cares about Johnny and doesn't want him to go, but he knows it's a very good opportunity for him and doesn't want to stand in his way.     The writers of this show are masters at telling great stories. Unlike today's writers who try to make everything overly complex, the writers back then just kept it simple. Leeds offers Johnny a chance to go to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Johnny knows it is a big honor, but he also likes where he is at. Dan knows its a big honor, he doesn't want Johnny to leave, but he refuses to stand in his way. Lily doesn't care about the military academy, she doesn't want Johnny to go. Then you have a former soldier who was dishonorably discharged wanting to get back at Leeds. I liked how Lily wanted Dan to beg Johnny to stay, but he couldn't do it. It's the guy code. It really showed Dan struggling with not wanting Johnny to leave, and Johnny not know whether he should stay or go. Then after Johnny saved Leeds, they all realize that his future is as a Lawman.moreless
