  • Marshal Troop helps an Indian woman who has a ranch outside Laramie, when most people won't....with an ending that surprises.

What separates this episode from most late 50's westerns is how the social message is handled. The prejudice is confronted w/o the heavy underpinnings. Troop doesn't try to push his tolerance on anyone. Instead he rolls up his sleeves and helps the Indian woman who has had her previous ranch hands run off by bigoted townspeople. This episode is one of my favorites because it shows the "softer" side of Dan. While this same type of script also would show up in other westerns [like Gunsmoke]...with someone like Matt Dillon you EXPECT him to help the oppressed cause he had that "nice guy" personna. With Dan Troop you are never quite sure what he is thinking, because he is the mysterious silent type. I love the ending because it brings the viewer a new respect for Troop as a man and Marshal.moreless
