Episode 12
AIRED:
In 1993, Gregory struggles to hold his film together. Everything that can go wrong does; his leading lady isn't there, the Germans want to add a ridiculous hot tub scene, and Valerie refuses to do nudity. Then the sound guy walks off…but luckily, Josh is home and agrees to substitute. Unfortunately, Josh's impromptu job ruins Beth's plan to tell him that she can't marry him - so she leaves the loft/set to hunt down Joe and commiserate about the difficulty of their situation. Athena finally shows up at the set in full diva mode, provoking a catfight with Valeria and forcing Gregory to explode at the entire crew and call it a day. After everyone clears out, Athena apologizes for being late and gives him a pep talk, while Gregory reminds her that this film is his only shot at being a director. At the office, Joe's happiness at being made partner is seriously marred by his fear that Carlito is responsible for the stolen computers - and by his failure to find his little brother. He struggles to take care of the problem before someone at the firm finds out, which leads to an argument with his mother about her denial of Carlito's problems. Meanwhile, Beth confesses to Athena that she's been sleeping with Joe - and Athena immediately tells Gregory. Back on the set the next day, Valeria drops both her attitude and her robe, and her nude scene with Peter plays brilliantly. Beth comes by the loft again, hoping to see Josh, but while he busily works sound she winds up talking with Joe - and then sleeping with him again. The next day of shooting goes even better, and Gregory finally feels like his movie is coming together, until Stokeley tells him that if he doesn't do the hot tub scene the Germans are replacing him. Beating them to the punch, Gregory refuses to do the scene, and pulls the plug on the movie himself. Beth finally tells Josh the truth - that she can't marry him. But when he asks her if there's someone else, she denies it. In 2001, while Athena struggles with the director of her "St. Louis Woman" revival - she really wants Oliver Park instead - Joe and Beth meet with a representative from the fancy school Joe wants Tyler to attend. At first reluctant to send her son to a school whose primary admissions criteria is the size of your bank account, Beth is impressed with Spencer Matthew's easy manner and upfront honesty about the Bentley school - and she finds herself attracted to him. Later, Athena fires her director and announces that Gregory will take over the show. After meeting Athena and Gregory for a drink and toasting his friend's new gig, Josh meets an attractive woman named Tammy at the bar. And Gregory shows up at the theatre the next day, only to discover that he won't be directing the show after all. According to Athena, the producers are threatening to shut down the production unless she agrees to work with Oliver Park. In 2008, Athena confronts Gregory about avoiding her, pointing out that he only slept with her the night Logan was killed because she hounded him. But Gregory admits he didn't just do it because Athena wanted him to - he'd had a fight with Logan. And he needed some closure himself. Gregory asks Athena to help him move out of Beth and Josh's place and back to the loft, and Josh comes home to a DVD of himself in a threesome with Tammy and another prostitute - blackmail to settle his lawsuit. Joe advises Josh to come clean to Beth about the threesome and take the suit to court, but Josh tells Beth that he's going to settle because he doesn't want negative publicity for the restaurant. Later, Janine comes into the restaurant to gloat about the settlement, and admits to Josh that Tammy is her sister. When Gregory and Athena go to the loft, Gregory sees his lover's coffee cup, his picture…and realizes once again that their life together is over.moreless
