In 1993 Gregory's in bed with Athena when he wakes up in a sweat - he's been dreaming about having sex with Peter. Athena, already awake and nervous about her upcoming performance, turns to him for comfort and pleasure, but Greg rejects her. Again. The next day, when Peter comes to the studio for looping, Beth sees him with Gregory and overhears the two men confessing their mutual attraction. She tries to talk to Gregory about it, but he slips away gratefully the minute Josh appears, leaving the two former lovers together in awkward silence. But then Josh admits that his marriage to Valerie has gotten off track, and Beth reaches out to him - which is unfortunate, because at that moment Valerie storms in and sees them together. She immediately pitches a screaming fit, and Josh gives as good as he gets -- ultimately demanding a divorce. But Valerie only laughs, and suggests that he consult his attorney. In 2001, Joe and Amanda's big party is a big nightmare for Beth - who's thrown out of her own kitchen, discovers a couple screwing on her son's bed, is patronized to by Amanda, and finds herself virtually ignored by her husband. So when Spencer calls, begging for help at the school meeting, she braves Joe's anger to slip out and meet him - only to arrive too late. Luckily, Spencer has already managed to convince the board to keep the feeding program, but he's still thrilled that Beth made the effort to help both the school, and him. Pleased that someone needs her, Beth hurries back to the party to apologize to Joe. At the door she lets in Tammy and tells her that the whole group of friends has been anxious to meet her - not realizing that she just made the party a nightmare for Josh as well. Tammy immediately confronts her lover, ruining Josh's chances with the blonde he's been working, while Beth discovers that Joe not only didn't realize she was gone, but he blames her for the chef quitting. In 2008, Gregory meets up with his old boyfriend Scott, who's interested - provided Greg has managed to put a little distance between himself and Athena. Unfortunately, Athena shows up at Greg's that evening bravely prepared to tell him that she's pregnant with his baby. Only the sight of the two men together breaks her resolve.moreless

In 1993, Carlito dodges through the N.Y. Marathon spectators, and manages to give the hoodlum chasing him a slip. He races to the loft apartment, where Gregory has banished the other roommates to finish shooting his film. Seeing Carlito's disappointment, Gregory tells him to stop by Athena's later if he wants to see his brother - he'll even make him an extra in the party scene. Meanwhile, Josh and Valerie are enjoying their honeymoon at Russ' penthouse when Russ walks in to find them naked, stoned, and - surprise - married. Russ berates Josh for getting married without a pre-nup, investing his own money in a movie, and for being the schmuck who let Beth get away. That evening at Athena's, as Beth watches them filming the re-enactment of Athena's party/holdup, Josh introduces her to his new wife, and Athena confesses to her that she might be pregnant. Joe shows up and heads straight for Beth - at least until he spots Carlito posing as one of the party guests. He turns to have a word with his troublesome younger brother, but just then Carlito's hoodlum catches up with him, and holds not just Carlito but the entire cast and crew at gunpoint. Only a surprising karate move from the closeted Peter, combined with quick action from Joe and Josh saves the evening - until Valerie spills the beans to Josh that Joe's been sleeping with Beth. While Gregory thanks Peter for his nerves, without managing to quite hide his attraction to the other man, Josh confronts his ex-fiance - and punches his best friend in the face when he learns the truth. In 2001, Joe's publicist Amanda is as interested in her client as she is in his career. But Joe brushes off her advances, at the same time that Josh rebukes Tammy's attempts to meet his friends and be more a part of his life. Gregory and Athena work the charity 10K and each other - she'll help him with his Athena Barnes hatchet piece if he helps rehabilitate her image. And Beth finds it more and more difficult to ignore her attraction to Spencer. In 2008, Beth drags the still-ailing Athena to the doctor, where she discovers that her mysterious illness is actually morning sickness. She's going to have Gregory's baby.moreless

In 1993, Josh abandons a frustrated Gregory and the film crew at his father's apartment to whisk Valerie off to Vermont, where they shack up, get high and elope. Meanwhile, working to motivate Peter during his love scene with Athena, Gregory discovers that his lead actor is gay as he tries to ignore their mutual attraction. And Joe finds Carlito measuring cocaine in their parents' shed. When the two tussle, Carlito pulls a gun on him. Bruised and worried, Joe shows up at Beth's, but is disappointed when she immediately assumes that he had a fight with Josh. Claiming he doesn't want to be her "rebound" boyfriend, Joe storms out of Beth's apartment moments after the two of them decide to call it quits. In 2001, Gregory furtively collects dirt on Athena for his article, while Amanda convinces Joe to host a celebrity dinner party at his house to drum up some publicity. Beth is reluctant, but agrees to meet with Amanda when Joe cancels an important meeting to help make sandwiches for the homeless at Tyler's school. In the meantime, a desperate Tammy tells Josh that she's been fired from the temp agency, that her roommate has skipped town owing three months rent, and that she's going to have to move back to Utica. But Josh intervenes, paying the back rent and splurging on a luxurious apartment for Tammy. Amanda eventually wins Beth over by promising that the party and the article will be in good taste, and when Gregory finally 'fesses up about the article, Athena is thrilled to help him dish on her. In 2008, however, Athena won't even help herself - and nothing Gregory says will talk her out of her depression. Gregory shares his concerns about Thena with Beth, while Joe worries that Russ' generous contributions to his campaign will wind up killing it. In order to prevent any claims of kickbacks, he makes a grandiose declaration that he will not accept donations of more than $100 from any individual - a statement that immediately infuriates not only Frannie, but also dangerous Union Boss Buddy Watsonmoreless

In 1993, Beth and Joe continue to see each other secretly, regardless of the repercussions among their friends and Josh's depression from the cancelled wedding. Josh however manages to lift Gregory's funk - if not his own - by offering to finance Gregory's film. Once on the set, Josh enjoys playing the role of producer, particularly when one of the actresses seems interested in him. Ignoring Athena's suggestion that he's on the rebound, Josh winds up taking Valerie home and getting stoned with her. He finds himself happier than he's been since the breakup with Beth, and he wants to sleep with Valerie, but she seems more interested in his money and stories about going to parties with the likes of Donald Trump. Athena meanwhile tells Gendel that she won't have sex with him again, because of Gregory. And Joe continues to worry about Carlito's involvement with the stolen computers, even while he flexes his new muscle at the firm by giving both Anderson and Teresa the brush-off. In 2001, Gregory tells Athena that he's forgiven her for screwing him out of the director's job, but he talks to Gil Foster about writing a profile on "the real Athena Barnes." Josh house-sits for Joe and Beth while they're on vacation, and brings Tammy to their place for a weekend of decadence. Between the sex, drinking and bonding, Tammy asks Josh to be good to her - previous boyfriends have treated her badly. In 2008, Joe's political opponent attacks him for accepting campaign contributions from Russ Adler. Frannie wants to dig into Chavez' past, but Joe calls her off - he wants to run a clean campaign. In 1993, Gregory struggles to hold his film together. Everything that can go wrong does; his leading lady isn't there, the Germans want to add a ridiculous hot tub scene, and Valerie refuses to do nudity. Then the sound guy walks off…but luckily, Josh is home and agrees to substitute. Unfortunately, Josh's impromptu job ruins Beth's plan to tell him that she can't marry him - so she leaves the loft/set to hunt down Joe and commiserate about the difficulty of their situation. Athena finally shows up at the set in full diva mode, provoking a catfight with Valeria and forcing Gregory to explode at the entire crew and call it a day. After everyone clears out, Athena apologizes for being late and gives him a pep talk, while Gregory reminds her that this film is his only shot at being a director. At the office, Joe's happiness at being made partner is seriously marred by his fear that Carlito is responsible for the stolen computers - and by his failure to find his little brother. He struggles to take care of the problem before someone at the firm finds out, which leads to an argument with his mother about her denial of Carlito's problems. Meanwhile, Beth confesses to Athena that she's been sleeping with Joe - and Athena immediately tells Gregory. Back on the set the next day, Valeria drops both her attitude and her robe, and her nude scene with Peter plays brilliantly. Beth comes by the loft again, hoping to see Josh, but while he busily works sound she winds up talking with Joe - and then sleeping with him again. The next day of shooting goes even better, and Gregory finally feels like his movie is coming together, until Stokeley tells him that if he doesn't do the hot tub scene the Germans are replacing him. Beating them to the punch, Gregory refuses to do the scene, and pulls the plug on the movie himself. Beth finally tells Josh the truth - that she can't marry him. But when he asks her if there's someone else, she denies it. In 2001, while Athena struggles with the director of her "St. Louis Woman" revival - she really wants Oliver Park instead - Joe and Beth meet with a representative from the fancy school Joe wants Tyler to attend. At first reluctant to send her son to a school whose primary admissions criteria is the size of your bank account, Beth is impressed with Spencer Matthew's easy manner and upfront honesty about the Bentley school - and she finds herself attracted to him. Later, Athena fires her director and announces that Gregory will take over the show. After meeting Athena and Gregory for a drink and toasting his friend's new gig, Josh meets an attractive woman named Tammy at the bar. And Gregory shows up at the theatre the next day, only to discover that he won't be directing the show after all. According to Athena, the producers are threatening to shut down the production unless she agrees to work with Oliver Park. In 2008, Athena confronts Gregory about avoiding her, pointing out that he only slept with her the night Logan was killed because she hounded him. But Gregory admits he didn't just do it because Athena wanted him to - he'd had a fight with Logan. And he needed some closure himself. Gregory asks Athena to help him move out of Beth and Josh's place and back to the loft, and Josh comes home to a DVD of himself in a threesome with Tammy and another prostitute - blackmail to settle his lawsuit. Joe advises Josh to come clean to Beth about the threesome and take the suit to court, but Josh tells Beth that he's going to settle because he doesn't want negative publicity for the restaurant. Later, Janine comes into the restaurant to gloat about the settlement, and admits to Josh that Tammy is her sister. When Gregory and Athena go to the loft, Gregory sees his lover's coffee cup, his picture…and realizes once again that their life together is over.moreless

In 1993, Joe has a lot on his plate. Russ Adler has a couple of tidbits he wants Joe to tell Josh: first, that he's shutting down Josh's townhouse rehab project, and second, Beth has to sign a pre-nuptual agreement before she can marry Josh. Joe draws the line at the pre-nup, and tells Russ that he is going to have to talk to Josh himself. Russ concedes. Feeling good about his relationship with Russ Adler, Joe decides to take a major career risk and goes to Paul Fishelson, senior partner at the law firm, to leverage his relationship with Russ into a partnership at the firm. Fishelson tells him that he has to take such a proposal to the partners' council and will have to get back to him. In the midst of all this, Joe discovers Carlito drunk at the office. He's already nervous because he's got so much on the line, he doesn't need Carlito around to mess things up any further. Joe sends Carlito home. When Joe goes home to check up on Carlito later that day, he finds him in the shed of his parents' house stashing away some computers. Carlito explains that this is his next career, fixing up computers. Joe is encouraged by this. The next day, Joe goes to see Fishelson, and gets the news - he's going to be a partner. The staff comes in and a brief celebration ensues. While mingling with the other partners, Joe overhears that the firm is missing some computers, and he's overcome by a familiar sinking feeling - Carlito. When Josh and Russ finally talk about the pre-nup, Josh takes the news hard. He absolutely refuses to ask Beth to sign such a document. Josh tells her about the encounter with his father, and Beth feels badly. She doesn't want to come between father and son, so she goes to see Russ to work things out. She learns something she wasn't prepared for, however. Joe prepared the document. Beth goes to the loft, runs into Joe, and confronts him. All their pent up feelings come out, and finally they have sex. In 2001, Deborah Renfro (Episode #109) comes to Beth again for help, wondering if she's had a chance to ask Joe to put a good word in for her husband Zack at the firm. Beth lies, and tells her she has, but that Joe can't really do anything because they're in separate departments. Deborah is in tears, wondering how they'll be able to pay their mortgage and send their kids to school. This guilts Beth into asking Joe for help. However, she learns that Joe is one of the partners that voted Zack out of the firm. If the guy can't pull his weight, that's his problem. In 2008, Gregory is staying with Beth and Josh, dealing with his grief. When Joe and Frannie show up to pick up Tyler, Gregory chews them out about Joe's campaign ads on gun control. They feature Logan in them, and Gregory wants Joe to stop using his image for political gain. Then as if there weren't enough tension in the room, Josh is suddenly served with papers for sexual harassment from his former pastry chef, Janine.moreless

In 1993, Gregory has started pre-production on his movie, and the loft is in chaos. Athena wants to go over the script, the crew is blowing fuses, and Gregory can't get an actress to do a nude scene. He gets lucky and finds a girl hanging around the set named Valerie, and she agrees to help him out. Athena, meanwhile, gets a call from Randy Gendel, a theater director who didn't give her a part in "The Iceman Cometh," even after she slept with him (Episode #104). Athena is apprehensive to talk to him, but he's got a role for her in an off Broadway play and it could be a huge break. Athena meets with Gendel, and realizes that in order to do the play she'll have to drop out of Gregory's movie. When Athena tells Gregory this, he loses it. He can't believe Athena would bail out on him especially since she knows how much the movie means to him. Stricken with guilt, Athena volunteers to drop out of the play, but Gregory makes a compromise and says he'll rewrite the script to accommodate her shooting schedule. He understands what this could do for her career, and doesn't want to get in her way.

Russ Adler wants to have lunch with his son, Josh and his new bride-to-be, Beth Greenway. Josh immediately assumes his father has an ulterior motive for the innocent get together, but Russ is on his best behavior and puts on the charm. Later we learn that Josh's instincts ring true, when Russ asks his new lawyer, Joe Rivera, to draw up a pre-nup for Josh. Russ doesn't trust his son's money management ability, and the Adler fortune is ble. Joe feels awkward about getting involved because of the conflict of interest due to his friendship with both parties…let alone his deeper feelings for Beth. The last thing he wants to do is further entrench himself into this situation. Joe learns, however, that Russ Adler doesn't take no for answer.

The strain in Josh's relationship with his father is only heightened in 2001, when Russ finds out that Josh has outbid him on a real estate project. In an ironic twist, Russ winds up venting his frustrations about his son to a call girl that Josh had just visited. Like father, like son.

In 2008, Gregory and Athena have just finished making love as a result of Athena's insistence that it will give her closure on their relationship. While a guilt-ridden Gregory soaks in the shower, the phone rings and Athena answers. Gregory has been summoned to the police station, and the news is devastating. Phil Logan, Gregory's partner, has been shot and killed. Gregory's friends all rally around him to help him cope, but Gregory's initial response is to lash out at Athena. If only he hadn't been with her… It's clear that both Athena and Gregory bear the weight of the enormous guilt.moreless

Gregory has hopes of becoming a filmmaker in the future. Along with Gregory is Josh Adler and Joe Rivera, with whom he shares an apartment with. Josh's dad is a very wealthy real estate dealer and Joe is working on becoming a lawyer. One of Athena's friends from yoga class, Beth Greenway, also attends the paty. Beth is a teacher. Josh and Joe both go after Beth and try to win a date with her. Their plans are interrupted when a man with a gun decides he'd like to join the party, too.
2001: Joe and Beth are now married and live in a lavish apartment in New York. They also have a three year old son named Tyler. Joe has become a lawyer and is in the middle of a big case, defending a very powerful man on the charge of murder. Beth is no longer a teacher, but is now a full time homemaker. Josh has become a real estate developer, working for his father, and is still in love with Beth. Gregory has decided to try his luck at writing as a columnist instead of being a director. He's also decided to try his luck dating men instead of Athena. - The entire group is still very close throughout all of the years.
2008: Gregory is now in the profession of therapy. He's also in a relationship with Patrick Logan, a New York detective. Athena's no longer the big star that she once was and all that she has to show for it is her addiction to drugs. Joe is now hoping to follow a career in politics and he and Beth are no longer together. Beth is facing possibly going blind later in the future, and has written best-selling book. She's also awaiting her second child, fathered by Josh. She is now married to Josh, who now owns his own restaurant.moreless
