In this episode, Wally gives Beaver a list of all the ways Larry is a lousy friend, which was refreshing to hear, as it seems to me that Larry's sole function on this show is to act stupid and get Beaver into trouble. I experienced a certain amount of schadenfreude to learn that the actor who played him was eventually fired from the show because of problems with his overbearing stage mother.
Ironically, this is the first episode where I actually felt some empathy for Larry. Yes, he cheats Beaver out of his money, but he starts out intending to pay it back. Unfortunately, he's easily led astray by a couple other kids, who convince him to spend the money on himself instead. At least he has the decency to feel badly about it afterwards. I still have a great deal of guilt from the many times I've been compelled to do things I knew were wrong. In that way at least, I guess I'm actually not that different from Larry.moreless
