I love Legend. It's one of the best Irish dramas arounnd.
Life has been sweet for Fridge, with two top kids and a loving marriage. But when Harriet, his wife, is killed by joy-riders, Fridge's world suddenly seems as upside down as the house he's been meaning to finish for years... Apparently Harriet was way ahead of Fridge in the DIY game: the day after her funeral, a brand new kitchen is delivered, and it seems Harriet has already paid for it up-front, in cash. Now Fridge has to figure out where the money came from, and more importantly, who it came from . All is not as it was, next door, either. Fridge's best mate, Willy, has broken up with next-door neighbour Jacinta. With Willy turfed out for good, it looks as if Jacinta's new boyfriend Barry may start to look more like a father-figure to Saoirse, Willy's daughter, than her own dad. Meanwhile, life goes on for the supporting characters in Legend. Local hard man, known as The Mammy,is busy as usual, heading up his firm-but-fair criminal gang, The Big Four. But The Mammy and co. are struggling to keep errant wide-boy, Dancer,in line. Plain James a plain-clothes detective with a troubled past, has his eye on Dancer too. Trouble is, that means Plain James has his eye on The Mammy and crew, simultaneously . Fridge's boss, Chivers, is a local stonemason, lovingly erecting headstones in the graveyard, and knocking sparks off Animal,one-part employee, two-parts pain in the backside. But Chivers is worried about Fridge's new circumstances. Just how long do you give someone off work when their Missus has kicked the bucket? Legend is the story of three very different Irish families, each one struggling to find their place amid the harsh realities of modern Ireland. Tough, funny and brilliantly observed, Legend is an accomplished snapshot of one community as it struggles to find its place in an ever-expanding urban jungle.moreless
