The Mor'd Sith Garen (played by Katrina Law) was sent after Zedd when he went to get the Listener from the sisters of the light in the episode "Extinction." She died in that confrontation, but somehow appears (alive) in this episode.
While Rahl is torturing Cara, you can see her left eye is severely bruised/bloody. A group of Mord Sith walk in at which point the bruising/bloodiness switches to her right eye.
Kahlan reveals that she hasn't seen her father in 15 years. In season 1 episode 5, she revealed that a confessor found she and her sister when she was eleven. This makes Kahlan 26 at the time of this episode.
Wizard's Second Rule: Greatest harm can come from the best intentions.
Nicholas Rahl is the second male confessor to be born into Kahlan Amnell's family in the same generation.
Master Nicholas Rahl is about nine years old when he is corrupted by his Confessor powers and kills his mother and father.
Michael Hurst, who directed this episode, played Iolaus, Hercules' sidekick on Hercules the Legendary Journeys. He's directed two other episodes (Sacrifice and Denna) and also guest starred in the episode called Revenant.
With the death of Giller, Zedd is left as the only Wizard of the First Order.
Differences with the book:
In the book, Michael betrayed Richard like Shota's vision that some one close to Richard will betray him. After Richard defeated Darken Rahl, he ordered to kill Michael when he still was loyal to Darken Rahl.
In the opening scene when the door to the den starts to close it's shown at different heights in scenes which follow. It's quite down when first man gets to the door and its up again when other man starts to run. It's almost closed when first man rolls himself through and it's quite up again when we see from outside the other man who is inside.
The spell that Zedd uses to cloak the Box of Orden from Darken Rahl is the Spell of Obscuring. This spell was also used in the books.
In this episode we learn that Kieran was the last seeker before Richard.
Zedd states that a confessor giving birth to a male child is "extraordinarily rare," yet both Dennee and Mother Confessor have both given birth to male children.
The ritual that confessors use to kill male confessor children is called the Ritual of the Waters.
In this episode Kahlan becomes Mother Confessor.
In this episode we learn that Zedd knew Mother Confessor in his past and was even a kind of mentor to her.
Book Difference: In the books, Dennee does not return after Kahlan believes her to be dead as she does in this episode.
In this episode we learn why we have never seen any male confessors because they are drowned at birth because they cannot handle their power when they reach a mature age.
The events in this episode are largely true to events surrounding the third Box of Orden in the book- Wizards First Rule. However, in the book, Rachael is aided by the wizard, Giller, rather than by Zedd. Giller was Kahlan's wizard, who left her service to protect the Box. Kahlan wrongly believed Giller abandoned her for greed. In this show, Giller is an evil wizard helping Darken Rahl.
In this episode we learn that there have only been three wizards of the first order that have been born in the past seventy years. One is Zedd, another is dead and the last works for Darken Rahl.
