  • GONE 'TIL NOVEMBER

Leverage's Summer Finale: Too Much Awesome for Just One Episode

Leverage's back-to-back summer finale was the best, and maybe only, way for the show to squeeze all of its awesomeness into one sitting.

  • Episode Summary

    EDIT

When Sophie is suspected of stealing a rare painting, Nate must not only clear her name but help his ex-partner Sterling find the real thief. Things take a turn for the worse when Nate discovers that a murder has been committed... and another one is in the offing.

There is this beautiful black and white etching or painting in the billiard room at the estate on this episode and I have to know who the artist it. Does anyone have any hints?

The first half of this season finale was stellar, but this episode left a little bit to be desired. Not saying that Nate and Sophie don't work well together, but this was just a boring storyline today. An odd twist at the end, but something that I really did not care for.

Hard to live up to the first hour anyway.

      Loved it!
    • A cute if tepid season finale of an episode

      7.5
This episode is the counterpoint to the previous one - that was a fairly taut action thriller, while this one has only Nate & Sophie, and they're not doing anything terribly noble, just playing around with each other and conning and stealing a little while trying to get to the bottom of a light mystery. It was "cute" all the way through but really didn't have much punch, if it weren't for Sterling it wouldn't even feel like a season finale (and thank goodness Sterling wasn't as stupid and jerky as usual, getting tired of him getting burned because he can't see the benefit of seeing what Nate & the team are trying to show him). The hook and the crime were both terribly obvious very early on, so it was about seeing how Nate and Sophie and even Sterling worked through the obstacles to get to the conclusion, and I enjoyed for the most part watching them bounce around, but it definitely wasn't tight enough to keep my attention the way the previous episode had. It felt like a fairly standard later Leverage episode minus the tech and brief violence.moreless

      • Nate: You're not supposed to root for the criminals.
Sophie: Always root for the home team.

      • Nate: A world-famous painting goes missing. And, oh, look, there's a world-famous art thief happens to be on the premises.
Sophie: Ex-art thief. And I didn't do anything.
Nate: I was standing right next to you, and I barely believe that.

      • Sterling: And here we have the most valuable piece in that collection gone missing and my favorite art thief on the premises.
Sophie: Ex-art thief. Ex-art thief! Why does nobody take that seriously.

      • Sterling: You have one hour. If I don't have a suspect in an hour, you're both going down for this.
Nate: Well, I don't need an hour. I have a Sophie.

      • Sterling: So let me get this straight. You stole not one but two paintings, one of which you spent the entire day trying to convince me you did not steal. All because your girlfriend, an unrepentant, inveterate, professional liar...
        Sophie: That's uncalled for.
Sterling: ...told you, with no evidence whatsoever, that Ma Mystere was fake. Now you're so sure that she's right that you not only think that this paiting is a fake, but every other Mettier that was in the house, the entire collection, is fake?
        Nate: That's right.
        Sterling: Arrest them both.
        Sophie: On what charge?
        Sterling: Theft.
Nate: We brought you back the painting.
        Sterling: Obstructing an investigation.
Sophie: We're helping you with the investigation.
        Sterling: Being annoying and crazy.
Nate: Well, that's not a crime. Since when was that a crime?
        Sophie: No, it's not.
        Sterling: I don't care!

      • Sterling: Hey! I don't suppose anyone here spent the last few years secretly replacing every Mettier in the house with forgeries while no one was looking? (the culprit runs)
        Nate: Very slick interrogation.
Sterling: I didn't think that would work.
        Sophie: She's getting away.
Sterling: I didn't think that would work!

      • Sophie: That brain of yours is very, very sexy.
Nate: Oh, thank you very much. How about the rest of me?
Sophie: It's a little beat-up, but... it has its charm.
