One of the things I loved about what Father Paul brought to this episode is his in depth knowledge in regards to Nate. The episode starts with Nate trying to help an old friend, Fr. Paul, save his church from a seedy business man. The team's all on board because of the connection. But things go south when they try and pull off a fake miracle, which ultimately causes more problems for everyone, than expected. I really appreciated how Fr. Paul held Nate accountable for his choices and decision, like a good priest and good friend should. But as the team is more than capable of dealing with getting out of trouble, they ended up saving the church and maybe saving face.
This is not an admission of TNT's Leverage being a good show but this week's episode was a step in the right direction.
A simple plot with a story that could've been used as a case for Law and Order is instead given to Leverage Headquarters where the five thieves devise a plan to thault a greedy businessman's attempt to build a mall over a church. Before this we got a simple, harmless, yet funny scene with the crew mocking Sophie's performance in Death of a Salesman. This is the kind of humor Leverage needs on a regular basis, not the outrageous and over the top material that has plagued the previous three episodes.
The episode certainly dragged at points, but the writing made you care about the characters and was able to suspend your belief into rooting for their victory, despite knowing in the back of your mind that that result was imminent. Overall a positive step for Leverage but the show still needs some fine-tuning.
