Lewis and Hathaway discover that the dead man was obsessed by Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark, and had a bitter rivalry with his brother, a professor of Theology, but their investigation is hampered by a well-meaning amateur detective, and by two students who are trying to earn a place in the Wednesday Club.
