Lightman investigates the kidnapping of a child. As he digs deeper in the investigation, he finds out the mother hides a few secrets of her own.
  • I continue to catch episodes of this program, when I can; I like Tim Roth, so I want to like this show.

I find that the premise for Lie To Me, requires a suspension of disbelief. How this firm could turn a profit is beyond me - what they do is basically pseudo-science, but their services are seen as widely sought after. Occasionally, I have been rewarded with what I call "Tim Roth tour de force episodes"; you get so caught up watching Mr. Roth, that what he is saying or doing, doesn't matter much. This was such an episode. I enjoyed the dynamic that took place between Dr. Cal Lightman and the protagonist. The actor playing the father of a kidnapped baby was Doug Hutchinson; I've been following his career since I first saw him on the X-Files - he doesn't appear often (in movies or television) but he is always compelling. The two performances were well worth watching and made this a pretty good episode.moreless

    • Emily: Same time tomorrow?
Liam: Sure, if it's cool with your dad.
Cal: Why did I have to have a daughter?
Emily: Uh, you know, actually, come over an hour earlier. We can make out.
      Cal: A lippy daughter.

    • (Cal finds Emily and her boyfriend studying.) Cal: The Federalist Papers. Really? Is that what you two get up to behind my back? Emily: Oh, no. We make out. Cal: Thanks for that. Emily: You asked.

    • Cal: You notice anything unusual about the cops in this photo? Loker: Not really. Cal: (To Anna) You notice anything unusual about the cops in this photo? Anna: Um, they're pretty much all kind of hunks. Cal: Oh, that's what Loker said. Loker: Hilarious.

    • Cal: Never disrespect your opponent, Em. Or your dad, for that matter. Emily: So, I should just bully them, then? Cal: I shake people up until they lose control and forget to hide their emotions. Not the same as bullying at all. Emily: You really think I'm disrespectful to you? Cal: You can't help it. I'm the authority figure. It's in your blood. Don't argue. Emily: Bully.
