  • It's a Run for Me

Just found out that the first pilot was actually transporting Uncle Sam's Sam a year earlier than the second pilot. No wonder it was not aired. Clearly it was not a hit. Tried staying for the sake of curiosity, but had to run even before the second half of the show. It's a failed remake (pilot) of the original UK's version.
  • Hit and Run was clearly not a hit and had my running for my DVD's of the original

It seems to be the trend to take great UK shows and bring them over to the United States. The Office has done a splendid job of transmuting over the Atlantic Ocean. I'm sure once they work on the tweaks for the first episode it should be better. The chemistry between Sam and Annie seems a bit lacking in this version and not really knowing Jason O'Mara from anything else, his take on the character is more bark then bite. Honestly I could only watch the first 20 minutes and I had to grab Episode 1 of the original.moreless

    • After picking up the series, it was decided to make cast and location changes. Jason O'Mara was the only cast member to stay, and the location was moved to New York.

    • On June 1, 2008, an article in the Los Angeles Times confirmed the rumor that production on Life On Mars will move to New York City.

    • While initial reports about the show said it would take place in Los Angeles an article announcing Lenny Clarke joining the cast say that it will take place in Middle America. Another contradiction was made when Colm Meaney did an interview stating the pilot ran true to the original just making it 1970's Los Angeles instead of Manchester England.

    • The roles of Tyler and Hunt were offered to the original actors John Simm and Philip Glenister from the BBC version. They turned down the offer.

    • The 2006 BBC series took its name from the David Bowie song Life on Mars. The song has been featured on the series.

    • This isn't the first time Thomas Schlamme has worked with David E. Kelley. Kelley has used him as a director for episodes for four of his other series in the past: The Practice, Ally McBeal, Chicago Hope, and Boston Public.

    • Jason O'Mara was added to the cast in the lead role as Sam Tyler in an announcement made on June 29, 2007. This stems from O'Mara's previous work with the network.

    • In March it was announced that the pilot was being pushed back to summer so that they would have more actors to chose from for the lead because so many were already tied to other pilots.

    • Production is set to begin for Life on Mars on August 14, 2007, and if picked up could air as early as a mid-season replacement for the 07/08 season.
