Sam finds someone like himself during a prostitution raid. Too bad it was a NYC Councilman. His name is Bobby Prince. When he is taken to the police station he starts telling Sam that he cam from 2009 and some of the events that are happening now. The whole precinct is in chaos because of the number of people there. Sam goes to attend to something else and the Councilman is shot and killed. Just before he dies he tells Sam that he had found his way home. The killer is in the precinct and it is Gene and Sam's job to find out who.

They later find that Prince had signed his condo over to a woman named Elena Kastin, who turns out to be the prostitute he was with when he was arrested. Gene and Sam start interrogating her and she says one thing to Gene and at the same time says something else to Sam about getting home. Gene has a plan to flush out the killer. He lets a fight start and a big guy who was suppose to be from the Midwest breaks up the fight like a cop would. Gene calls him out and he grabs Gene's daughter with a knife at her throat. He makes his way out of the building holding her at knifepoint. What he doesn't know is as he is backing out, Ray and Annie are behind him ready to take him out. Ray steps up and misses and as the guy is getting ready to stab him, Annie knocks him out.

Many other things happen in this episode; Maria and Sam end their relationship, Gene tries to bond with Maria and Annie proves she can hold her own.moreless
  • The opening with the song Ballroom Blitz is very well edited, with images freezing according to the lyrics – after all, the songs are one of the most interesting things on almost every episode of Life on Mars.moreless

Probably the best episode until now. The show is discovering its own way to tell the stories. It´s not the funny things that matter, nor the plot extremely based on action. What really matters now is the scifi approach, with a psychological verve. Characters are explored into their dramas: the terrible relationship between Hunt and his daughter is very well shown, with explosive dialogs and silence. The opening with the song Ballroom Blitz is very well edited, with images freezing according to the lyrics – after all, the songs are one of the most interesting things on almost every episode of Life on Mars.moreless

    • Maria: (to Sam after lets him know that he and Annie belong together) God made you cute, but he also made you a little dense.

    • Sam: (To Misty/Elena after she tells him about going home I don't know if you really just said that or I imagined it.
Misty/Elena: I said it -- and you imagined it.

    • Ray: It don't matter what you do, it don't matter what happens. You'll always be No-Nuts Norris. The one that don't belong. The novelty. The party favor.
Annie: You do have to ask yourself, Ray, just what is it about me that scares you so damn much?

    • Annie: You can always click your heels together three times and say... Annie refers to some Wizard of Oz story adaption. At the end of the story the Good Witch of the South, Glinda, tells Dorothy how she can go home. Exact quote from the book is "All you have to do is to knock the heels together three times and command the shoes to carry you wherever you wish to go."
