      • Laverne: You told your husband he's gonna be a father, and he actually wants to be one. I'd say that's a good thing.
Cate: No, he wants to be a good guy and do the right thing. There is a big difference.
Laverne: What do you expect, Cate? What do you want him to do? If he walked away, if he didn't come back, would that make you feel better?
Cate: I want Ryan to come back. I just...I'm like that plastic container.
        Laverne: Cheap and disposable?
Cate: No. He wants what's inside. He doesn't want me.
Laverne: I know this is messy, and it's not how you wanted it to happen. But let's look on the bright side. What you wanted is happening. You wanted Ryan back home. You said so yourself.
Cate: We were supposed to fix things first.
Laverne: But maybe his coming home will be what fixes things, not the other way around.
Cate: Do you really think that that could happen?
Laverne: (nods, then takes a bite of Cate's casserole) Cate?
        Cate: Hmm?
Laverne: This is edible! (they laugh) That proves it. Anything can happen.

      • Ryan: (after finding out Cate is pregnant) Look, um, I'm moving back home.
        Cate: No.
        Ryan: Yes.
Cate: No. This is exactly why I didn't want to tell you. Nothing has changed between us. You know, having a baby doesn't change the fact that our marriage is a complete mess, that you went to Julia, that I went to Baze. We are not even living in the same space.
Ryan: Having a baby changes everything. I mean, sixteen years ago, all you wanted was for someone to stand in front of you and be an accountable guy. Now, that's what I'm doing.
Cate: I'm not sixteen anymore. And I don't want you back if we're gonna keep having the same stupid fights about the same stupid things. And I don't want you back because you want a baby. I want you back because you want me.

      • Laverne: Breakfast wine?
Cate: Uh, no. I am good.
Abby: Oh my God. You're pregnant.
        Cate: No, I'm not.
Laverne: I knew your boobs looked big. I thought that was just a really great bra!

      • Abby: Oh, Cate, you made something with more than three ingredients in it.
Laverne: Honey, I don't know why you do this to yourself. My Thanksgiving side dish is a jug of martinis. Always a hit.
        Abby: That's true.
Cate: Yeah, okay. Well, I just wanted to make something special for Lux. I'm not gonna let Baze steal the limelight with his giant bird.
Abby: I'm familiar with Baze's giant bird. It's not all that.
Laverne: Girls, please. It's a little early to hear about your sex lives.
