Laverne: You told your husband he's gonna be a father, and he actually wants to be one. I'd say that's a good thing.
Cate: No, he wants to be a good guy and do the right thing. There is a big difference.
Laverne: What do you expect, Cate? What do you want him to do? If he walked away, if he didn't come back, would that make you feel better?
Cate: I want Ryan to come back. I just...I'm like that plastic container.
Laverne: Cheap and disposable?
Cate: No. He wants what's inside. He doesn't want me.
Laverne: I know this is messy, and it's not how you wanted it to happen. But let's look on the bright side. What you wanted is happening. You wanted Ryan back home. You said so yourself.
Cate: We were supposed to fix things first.
Laverne: But maybe his coming home will be what fixes things, not the other way around.
Cate: Do you really think that that could happen?
Laverne: (nods, then takes a bite of Cate's casserole) Cate?
Cate: Hmm?
Laverne: This is edible! (they laugh) That proves it. Anything can happen.
