This was another powerful Lifestories episode. I especially liked the fact that the father of the young boy who was killed told children they needed to watch this show with their parents or another adult because the subject matter may be too painful for them. Actually it was a show which needs to be seen by everyone.
The acting wasn’t the greatest I have ever seen, in fact the little boy who played the boy who shot Brian Darling got on my nerves. However, in a way, the acting was on target because the boys were just acting like young children which they were and it gave this telefilm a little more reality. With all of that being said, however, the plot was interesting and still very difficult to watch. I really had no idea that they would even show Brian being show in the way they did, but they did and it needed to be seen by children and adults to prove just how dangerous owning a gun with children in the house can be. The ending was especially hard to watch because all throughout the show Brian wanted to go and buy a new jacket with his grandmother the next day, but she was too busy. When the father and grandmother arrive and see Brian laying on the floor dead, his grandmother leaned over to him and told him they were going to buy him a new jacket today. It had me crying my eyes out.
Frankly, I think that this episode should be shown in schools. Also, it should be given out to people who purchase guns if they have children in their home or may have young children over. It would be a pretty good deterrent to having guns out in the open in home and making sure if they have one that they end up locked up somewhere the children don’t know about.
