When two families - one black, one white - share the same house, they discover that their differences are definitely more than skin deep. Tanya (Peete), Ed and their teen kids are a middle-class African-American family who open their doors for an old friend who is down on her luck. Newly single Maddie (Farr) and her 16 year-old son Keith just need a place to stay until they can get back on their feet.       • In the original pilot actress Amy Yasbeck played the role of single-mother Maddie in the series, but later on actress Diane Farr took the role on as Maddie for undisclosed reasons as to why the switch. With that, scenes of the pilot were reshot for Diane Farr.

      • J. Mack Slaughter made guest appearances on numerous WB shows including Family Affair and What I Like About You before getting his role on this WB comedy.

      • Holly Robinson Peete previously starred in the WB comedy For Your Love for 4 seasons before getting the role on this WB comedy.
