Welcome to the Liquid Television guide at TV.com. What words come to mind when you think of Liquid Television? Perhaps smart..funny..dramatic...maybe even weird. Liquid Television was THE show for "up-and-coming" animators to show what they got. Originally shown on BBC-2 in December of 1990, MTV picked up the show in June of 1991, and lasted 3 seasons. Who said that cartoons had to be drawn by hand? This show combined computer animation, drawings by hand, paper cut-outs, and even live action to make something entertaining for the viewers. A total of 8-15 animated shorts were shown per 30 minute episode (24 minutes without commercials..though times have changed). Broadcast History (MTV)* June 1991: Sunday, 7:30 PM Sept. 1992-Nov. 1992: Tuesday, 10:00 PM Jan. 1994-Mar. 1994: Sunday, 11:30 PM * = only for new episodes. Reruns were always scattered on the MTV schedule to "kill time" Popular Cartoons Aeon Flux - Aeon Flux is a secret agent from Monica. Her mission is to serve justice to those against her via violence. Only problem is that she somehow gets killed before her mission is completed...but is "rebooted" in each short that follows. Beavis and Butt-head - Originally featured as two different shorts on the second season of Liquid Television, Beavis and Butt-head are probably the biggest morons you'll ever find...but they only do stupid things because they're bored! Their idea of life is simple: TV, women, and more TV. Crazy Daisy Ed - Crazy Daisy Ed is an obnoxious and very angry flower. Rebellious ways is part of his life...but the police is there to make sure that doesn't happen. Stick Figure Theater - What happens when you take a clip from a classic movie and have stick figures act out that particular scene? I'm sure the most curious have asked such a question, and here's your chance to experience that... If you want to add any other popular Liquid Television cartoons to the list, just contribute it (make sure to include a brief description of the cartoon), or post it on the message board. Spin Offs Beavis and Butt-head (1993-1997) Aeon Flux (1995) Awards & Nominations 1993 Emmy - Nominated Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming One Hour or Less) - Japhet Asher (executive producer), Abby Terkuhle (executive producer), Prudence Fenton (producer), John Payson (supervising producer for MTV) For show #11. 1992 Emmy - Won Outstanding Individual Achievement in Graphic Design and Title Sequences - Ken Pearce (designer/animator), Mark Malmberg (designer) Theme Song Composed by Mark Mothersbaughmoreless

  • They should have more shows like Liquid Television.

Liquid Television was a show that showcased beginning animators and was always interesting and never once disappointed me. I watched every episode on Sunday nights on MTV and always looked forward to the next installment. Features like Stick Figure Theatre, Aeon Flux, Winter Steele, and, yes, even Dogboy brought me back every week just to see what would happen next. This would also get you to watch shorts like the Plimptoons or Genie Junkie along with Beavis and Butthead's first outing of "Frog Baseball". For an animation fan, it exposed me to various styles of animation that I wouldn't get to see on a normal basis. For an artist, it opened my mind to new styles and techniques that still inspire me today. Liquid Television was revolutionary and cutting-edge and should have been at the forefront of a genesis of new talent. I could have seen shows that featured filmmakers of all walks and stripes getting their first shots at putting out their work. After Liquid Television was cancelled, I was exposed to people making fan films like the COPS inspired "TROOPS" featuring Stormtroopers on patrol. There are a lot of creative people out there that could have used a show like Liquid Television. I also think it would be great for viewers to experience more than what studio executives consider exellent programming. I think that Liquid Television, new shows compiled or even the old ones reshown, would be watched just like I did on those Sunday nights.moreless
  • Really amazing and rich show

This show was a perfect window for many animators to show new, fresh and out of common animation. the content was rich in visual variety, music and thematics. It was also a great space for alternative culture and expression, and each one of the short shows featured in Liquid Television were different and entertaining. That grungy generation felt perfectly identified with it.

I remember specially Aeon Flux, Crazy Daisy Ed and Oddities. It is a real shame that MTV no longer has these alternative, free spaces on its channel, that has now been invaded by cheap mainstream quasi-culture and boring reality shows.moreless

Easily one of the most forward thinking shows in the history of MTV. It was outrageous, zany, over the top, and sometimes downright bizarre. Sure, sometimes it was a bit uneven but that is what you get with such an anthology time of program. Since the individual segements were short, it was easier to take the bad with the good, but mainly it was great. Just about every show currently on [adult swim] owes some type of debt to the show for paving the way for experimental short alternative programs consisting mainly of animation for older viewers.moreless
  • Some of the most interesting animation I've ever seen.

I remember staying up late so I could sneak downstairs and watch this show. A really interesting, twisted show that featured shorts such as Dog Boy, Stick Figure Theater, Winter Steele... I think everyone remembers Aeon Flux and Beavis and Butthead from their beginings on this show but there was a lot more than just that... A cherished part of my childhood that I wish MTV would do justice too and release proper complete DVD sets instead of best of style dvds which in my opinion leave out some of the more notable and obscurely interesting pieces that were fetured on the show.moreless
