      Arthur Clennam proposes to his old girlfriend Pet Meagles, in spite of her idiotic father. Meanwhile, the enterprising Pancks continues his efforts to unravel the mysterious connection between the House of Clennam and members of the Dorrit family.

      Rigaud introduces himself to the House of Clennam, whilst Pet marries Henry Gowan. Mr Pancks' investigation into the Dorrit family's incarceration at the Marshalsea concludes as Arthur and Amy break momentous news to Mr Dorrit.

      Mr Dorrit is released from the Marshalsea after more than twenty years and takes his family abroad in order for them to reinvent themselves as members of society. Miss Wade commissions Rigaud to watch Pet and Henry Gowan, whilst Rigaud takes the chance to follow the Dorrits and find out their connection to the House of Clennam.moreless

      The Dorrits arrive in Venice where Fanny renews her acquaintance with Edmund Sparkler and his mother, Mrs Merdle, whilst Amy becomes friends with Pet Gowan. Rigaud suspects a deeper connection between the Dorrits and the House of Clennam.

      Fanny's dalliance with Edmund Sparkler spurs Mrs Merdle into making plans to separate the two once and for all. Merdle's Bank is besieged by investors. Arthur is concerned when he sees a suspicious Frenchman- Rigaud- at his mother's house.

      Fanny and Edmund Sparkler become closer, despite his mother's wishes. Mr Dorrit gets an unpleasant reminder of his former days as he once again meets old acquaintances in Venice.

      Mr Dorrit returns to London with Fanny and Edmund Sparkler, leaving Amy behind in Venice; however the high life in London is not what he hoped it would be. Arthur invests Doyce and Clennam's capital in Mr Merdle's bank, whilst Doyce takes a commission in Russia.

      Mr Dorrit returns to Venice after his trip to London revives some unwelcome memories but his increasingly erratic behaviour begins to worry his family especially his outburst at Mrs Merdle's ball. Amy and Arthur meet again, whilst Arthur warns his mother she may be in danger from the villainous Rigaud.

      Mr Merdle's death and the collapse of Merdle's Bank sends shockwaves throughout London as many people face financial ruin- including Arthur, who returns to the Marshalsea as a prisoner. As he lies gravely ill, Amy returns to her birthplace to look after him. The mystery at the heart of the House of Clennam is also revealed as Rigaud returns to play out his blackmail of Mrs Clennam.moreless
