    8.0
    "Great"
This episode mainly focuses on Mr. Edwards.

When Charles goes to Manketo, he runs into his old friend Mr. Edwards. Mr. Edwards is in a fight in a bar at Manketo and Charles takes him out before anything else happens. He asks Mr. Edwards to come with him to Plum Creek and Mr. Edwards agrees. Back in Plum Creek, the Ingalls are happy to see Mr. Edwards again. Laura is in bed because she has a high fever. Mr. Edwards makes a confession to Charles, saying that he used to be married once, and had a daughter like Laura named Alice, but she died because of Small Pox. Mr. Edwards starts working with Charles in the town, where he meets Grace Snider, a woman who works at the post office opposite where they work. Ms. Snider finds Mr. Edwards a little odd, especially when she thinks he’s drinking while he’s at work. They soon become friends, and their friendship turns into love. They have a lot of nice moments, but things take a turn when Mr. Edwards tells Ms. Snider that he doesn’t believe in God. However, after Caroline has a talk with him, he changes himself for Ms. Snider.

This episode started off really well, and was entertaining throughout, except towards the end where Ms. Snider and Mr. Edwards have a fight. It sort of dragged on a little after that. Apart from that, I found the scenes when Mr. Hansen thinks that Ms. Snider has a drinking problem really funny, and Mr. Edwards’ ‘Old Dan Tucker’ song was amusing.

Overall, a nice episode but not one of the best.
  • When Charles runs into his old friend, Mr. Edwards, in Mankato and persuades him to visit, Caroline and the girls are delighted to see him again.

Charles runs into Mr. Edwards, very drunk and in the middle of a tavern brawl, while on business in Mankato. After sobering up his old friend, he persuades him to travel back to Walnut Grove to visit the family. The girls, most particularly Laura, are thrilled to see him and he seems equally pleased.

When it looks as though he won't stay long, Caroline decides to try a little bit of match making with the local postmistress, the widowed Grace Snider, who takes quite a shine to Mr. Edwards, even if he is a little rough around the edges. Such a pity then that a general discussion about what to do on a sunny Sunday can change this blossoming relationship so easily ...

Terrific episode and great to see the talented Victor French join the cast.
