Little House on the Prairie

Season 9 Episode 4

Aired Wednesday 12:00 AM Oct 18, 1982 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • It makes no sense that when Thomas falls asleep, Laura wouldn't immediately make Jenny run for help.

    • Laura doesn't make much effort to go after Doc Baker's retreating carriage, even though the horse is only trotting. Considering the trouble she's in, one would think she'd tear after him.

    • Baby Rose doesn't even blink when the three shots of gunfire go off.

    • Goof: In the scene where Laura takes Rose from Thomas to put her back in her crib, you can clearly see a plastic doll leg and very blonde, fake looking doll hair sticking out of the blanket. When it cuts to Laura putting Rose in the crib a few seconds later, Rose is back to being a real baby.

    • In the thunderstorm scene where Jeb and Jason are in their beds in the loft, watch closely when Jeb says, "Pa must be back!" and gets out of bed to look out the window. Underneath his nightgown, you can see that he is clearly wearing a pair of black and blue shorts that look like they could be basketball shorts. Surely those weren't around in this time period.

    • In one scene of this episode, Jason Carter scurries into bed with Jeb when the storm scares him. When he does this, you can clearly see his underwear underneath his nightgown. It is very visible, and a bit surprising that this shot wasn't edited out.

  • Quotes

    • Elizabeth: Mrs. Wilder, is it all right if Jenny and I go wading in the creek?
      Laura: I don't know--
Almanzo: That sounds like a great idea to me. I'd go with you myself if I didn't have my Sunday clothes on.
      Laura: Almanzo.
Almanzo: Well, I would. Doesn't sound like such a bad idea for the two of us.....

    • Jason: Jeb, can I sleep with you tonight?
      Jeb: What for?
      Jason: Because I'm cold.
      Jeb: You've got a blanket.
Jason: Come on, Jeb, I'm scared.
      Jeb: Of what?
      Jason: Of him. Mr. Stark.
Jeb: He's probably miles away from here by now. That's why Pa and the other men went after him.
Jason: You don't know that for sure.
Jeb: Go to bed, Jason. (Jason doesn't go) I said go to bed.
Jason: Fine, but if I get murdered in my sleep, you'll be sorry.
      Jeb: Go to bed, Jason.

    • Elizabeth: I was wondering if you'd like to go wading in the creek with me.
Jenny: I should help Aunt Laura with dinner.
Elizabeth: Please, Jenny? Pa will let me go if you ask him.
Jenny: If your Pa catches you with Randall Page, he'll skin us both!
Elizabeth: Not you. He likes you, because you make good grades and all. Besides, he won't catch us.
Jenny: Just remember, that's what the old catfish said. (smiles) But right now, I can't think of anything that would feel better than a wade in the creek!

  • Notes

    • Actress Michele Marsh, who plays Tom Stark's wife Constance in this episode, went on to appear in Choices, a Season 5 episode from Michael Landon's hit series Highway to Heaven, about 6 years after this episode aired.

    • This is the second time in the series that Laura is held hostage by a delusional person who mistakes her for a member of their family. It happened first in Season 4's My Ellen, when a grieving mother--in the wake of her child's death--believed that Laura was her daughter.

    • Featured characters: Laura and Jenny

    • If actor Ronnie Scribner (Randall Page) looks familiar to you, it's probably because he appeared four years ago in Season 5's Blind Man's Bluff, where he played Jordan, a friend of Laura's and a daredevil who hatched a diabolical plan to get his parents back together.
