It's holiday time and Miss Beadle wants all the class to gather leaves for a project while they are away. Mary and Laura are particularly excited because the Ingalls family are going away camping and that means they will have access to different leaves to their classmates.
Upon hearing this news, Nellie insists that the Olesons go along as well as she doesn't want Mary and Laura to have a better leaf project than she does. Reluctantly, and mainly for the sake of poor Nels, who definitely needs a break, they allow the Oleson's to tag along. Naturally, Mrs. Oleson pretends to be far superior at outdoor pursuits than she actually is and takes the credit for Caroline's work. Meanwhile, on the leaf hunting expedition, Willie manages to find some poison ivy, which he proudly shows to his mother and, of course, by morning, they are both covered in nasty, red, itchy welts, which Caroline treats for them.
A very funny episode and good to see Mrs. Oleson getting some of what she deserves for a change as it's quite rare!moreless

When Ms. Beadle assigns a leaf-gathering project to her students, Mary and Laura are excited to find all kinds of unique leaves on an upcoming camping trip with the family. Determined to see her own children receive equal opportunities, Harriet convinces her husband to let their famile tag along with the Ingalls'. Although the two families have a difficult time adjusting to this extended period of time together, they gradually come to have a deeper respect for one another--but that doesn't mean that Nellie, Willie, and Harriet won't be traveling home with a less-than-desirable surprise.moreless

ADD TRIVIA- On their camping trip, the Ingalls and Oleson families are seen traveling where there are snow-capped mountains. There are no mountains whatsoever in Minnesota. Edit
- There are a couple of noticable lighting irregularities in this episode. First, the Olesons supposedly meet the Ingalls at 6:00 in the morning to leave for the camping trip, yet the shadows on the ground are not elongated at all. Clearly, this scene was filmed near noontime. Also, in the scene around the campfire, it's pitch black behind Ma and the girls, but when they cut to Mrs. Oleson and her children, the viewer can see daylight through the trees in the background. Though the two groups are implied to be carrying on two different conversations at once, they clearly weren't filmed simultaneously. Edit
