When Laura and Willie are walking and Doc Baker passes by them, Willie asks Doc Baker for a ride and Doc Baker gives Willie the ride. Laura is just left standing there as Doc Baker drives Willie home. It seems surprising that Doc Baker would just leave Laura standing there without offering her a ride home after he agreed to give Willie a ride home.
Caroline: (about how she tried to make Charles jealous many years ago) And so I had to track him down, admit my deceptions, and ask him to the dance myself.
Laura: But the girls aren't supposed to do the asking!
Grace: Isaiah would never let me hear the end of it!
Caroline: Well, swallowing your pride doesn't give you indigestion.
Willie: (at the fishing hole) We've got dibs on this spot, Henry.
Laura: There's enough room for everyone.
Henry: First is first.
Willie: Two's company, three's a crowd, and four and five is nine!
Charles: I thought you were all through with your homework, Half Pint.
Laura: We're having a Bible quiz in Sunday School.
Charles: Oh, good. I'll ask you a few questions to see if you can answer them. Where do they mention baseball in the Bible?
Charles: Mm hmm.
Laura: I didn't know they played baseball in the Bible.
Charles: Mm-hmm. The very first line in the Book of Genesis--"In the Big Inning!" (laughs)
Charles: All right, let me try another one. What time of day did God create Adam?
Laura: What time?
Charles: Just before Eve. (dead silence in the room) Just before Eve. (no laughter, Charles clears his throat uncomfortably) I think I'll go outside and smoke my pipe......
Laura: Recess is almost over, and you haven't held my hand once!
Willie: I had to go to the outhouse.
Laura: You always have to go to the outhouse!
Willie: I can't hold your hand all the time!
Laura: You have to if you want the Aggie and all your other marbles back.
Willie: Don't forget the Cloudie!
Laura: I didn't, but you're not keeping up your end of the bargain!
Willie: I can't hold hands all the time! My hand gets wet!
Caroline: What's the matter, Laura?
Laura: Well, I've been thinking. You can hear a lot of fairy tales and stories, but you never really know how tragical things are unless you feel them yourself. Now I know how Cinderella felt when nobody asked her to the ball.
Mr. Edwards: (to Nels Oleson) Hey, we missed you at the poker game last night!
Harriet: Some people spend their time with more worthwhile pursuits.
Mr. Edwards: Well, so would I, if I could think of one.
Willie: I bet you want me to do something mean to my sister.
Laura: No, just a favor.
Willie: What kind of favor?
Laura: You have to pretend like you like me--like you're my beau.
Willie: That's not a favor, that's a chore!
Charles: (about the popcorn) This needs more salt.
Caroline: You should have said something before you ate it all!
